Fort Richardson State Park & State Historic Site, 228 Park Road 61 Jacksboro, TX 76458 GENERALDESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Lead Ranger, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work. Responsible for duties pertaining to park operations, maintenance and visitor services at Fort Richardson State Park. The position maintains park facilities including preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspecting) of all park buildings, maintains park grounds by mowing, tree and hedge trimming, maintaining picnic facilities, trash and litter removal, operating, repairing and maintaining equipment and facilities. Provides visitor services by providing general information about the park to the public and visitors. Performs duties including, but not limited to, advises visitors of park rules and regulations; promotes public relations via voluntary compliance; and patrols state lands and responds to emergency situations; and prepares for emergency response. Works under the general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures. QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduation from High School or GED.Experience:
Three years facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.Licensure:
Must possess a valid State driver's license, at the time of hire.Note:
Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license.ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS
Experience:
Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Three years general maintenance experience in repairing buildings, equipment, plumbing or electrical systems OR grounds maintenance experience such as: operating lawn mowers, tractors, trucks, or power hand tools. Experience working with the public.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of building and facility maintenance and repair techniques utilizing trade skills. Knowledge of plumbing to include maintaining, repairing and installing. Knowledge of grounds keeping equipment and techniques. Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Skill in effective verbal and written communication. Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner. Skill in the use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment. Skill in reading, writing, and basic math. Skill in performing routine maintenance and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed. Skill in performing maintenance and repairs to vehicles, equipment and facilities. Ability to accurately follow instructions. Ability to work independently with little or no supervision. Ability to handle complaints, emergency situations, stressful work environments, and large groups of people. Ability to use sound judgment in dealing with confidential matters of significant consequences. Ability to work as a member of a team. Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs. Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.WORKING CONDITIONS
Required to work in a high visitation public park with overnight camping. Required to work hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Required to adjust to changing schedules. Required to respond to emergency on call situations. Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions. Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs. May be required to operate a State vehicle. Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.
