Job Description

In the performance of their respective tasks and duties, all employees are expected to conform to the following: Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision. Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with customers and other employees. Observes and audits safety protocols to create a safe work environment. Position Purpose The Trailer Technician - II, Delivers Excellence to our Professional Drivers by ensuring that our equipment is mission ready and meets or exceeds all DOT standards. The Trailer Technician's primary functions will be to safely perform preventative maintenance, diagnose faults and make necessary repairs to ensure that company equipment is able to operate safely and efficiently. Position Reports to Service Manager Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks Preventative Maintenance including: Scheduled Maintenance Federal Annual Inspections Equipment Diagnostics and Repairs to all systems of equipment, for example: Wheel end repairs Air Brakes Lighting Coupling Landing gear Sliding tandem systems Structural welding and fabrication Van Trailer Body Repairs Assist in determining if repairs require outside vendor maintenance. Use work order management system to record time, parts, and services performed. Enforce and follow all Service Center safety practices and policies. Keeps equipment and work area neat and clean. Performs other duties as assigned. Help develop other trailer technicians.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Body positions include standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; finger dexterity, reaching with arms and hands. Must be able to life or exert force of more than 100 pounds. Must have command of the sense of sight, smell, hearing, speech, and touch. Must be able to see 20/20 (with corrective lenses) and hear (with mechanical assistance if needed) sufficient to understand and comprehend individual one-on-one conversations. Specific vision abilities, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
This position will be working primarily in outdoor weather conditions. Will sometimes work near moving mechanical parts; in high precarious places; with fumes or airborne particles; with toxic or caustic chemicals; and in extreme heat (non-weather). There will sometimes be vibration, risk, of electric shock, and working with explosives. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud due to air tools, hammer and running engines.
