Job Description

Under the direction of the District Rehabilitation Counselor, the Transition Assistant/Job Coach will assist students with disabilities in learning to perform employments tasks/functions at the Job Training Program or community employment site in order to improve post school outcomes.

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Complies with the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession; upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives, regulations, GISD school board policies, as well as local, state and federal regulations. Will assist in the procurement or development of appropriate jobs in the community for various students as assigned by the Rehabilitation Counselors. Jobs are to be consistent with a student's Measurable Post-Secondary goals as per the most current IEP. Will transport students from school or Job Training Program to/from job sites for the purpose of a job interview. Will transport students to/from community jobs and remain onsite as a Job Coach as necessary and appropriate. Will serve as a Job Coach by working side-by-side with the student as required at the Job Training Program or in the community Will maintain positive working relationships with students, colleagues, supervisor(s), and parents. Will maintain records of student work-time performed and provide evaluations of student performance as requested. Will keep a record of student work hours and complete biweekly paperwork to submit to the finance office to ensure that students are paid for the hours they work. Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); One to three months related experience and/or training; Completion of 48 semester hours of academic credit that includes 15 semester hours in language arts, reading, writing, mathematics or professional education (earned from a nationally or regionally accredited college/university) or Passage of Educational Assistant Assessment (ParaPro, ParaEducator, and Basic Skills).
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
New Mexico Public Education Educational Assistant Level III License required. Must have, or acquire, an Activity Driver Certificate to transport students through training provided by the district Transportation Department. Must have, or acquire within 1 year of being hired, the Basic Certificate of Achievement in Employment Services through the Association of Community Rehabilitation Counselors (ACRE).
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Physical demands vary on type of job placement or activity involved in. Maintains emotional control under stress.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
