The Transportation Dispatcher is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the transportation department, ensuring efficient scheduling and dispatching of drivers, maintaining communication with schools, parents, and staff, and performing administrative duties. This role plays a crucial part in the safe and timely transportation of students and requires strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or additional education in administration, logistics, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 1 years of experience in an administrative or dispatching role, preferably within a transportation or school setting preferred. A valid driver's license Willingness to obtain a Michigan Commercial Class B driver's licenseEssential Duties:
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (Does not include all tasks employee may be expected to perform.) Maintain inventory, order supplies and perform clerical functions. Coordinate and assign daily bus routes and schedules for drivers, ensuring timely and efficient transportation of students. Dispatch drivers and buses in response to transportation needs, including last-minute adjustments due to driver or vehicle availability. Monitor GPS systems and radio communications to track bus locations and relay information to drivers as necessary. Serve as the primary point of contact for schools, drivers, parents, and district staff, answering inquiries and providing updates on transportation issues. Communicate route changes, delays, and other transportation-related information to schools and parents in a timely manner Provide support and guidance to drivers during on-road incidents, coordinating assistance and notifying relevant parties when necessary. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of driver schedules, routes, and student ridership. Track and manage attendance, driver certifications, and licensing to ensure compliance with district and state regulations. Prepare and submit reports related to transportation services, such as route efficiency, incident reports, and fuel usage. Manage transportation department files, records, and communications with a high degree of organization and confidentiality. Address and resolve parent and staff concerns or complaints related to transportation services with professionalism and empathy. Investigate and document transportation incidents, accidents, or route delays, working closely with the Director to resolve issues and improve service. Maintain a friendly, customer-focused approach while handling challenging or emergency situations. Assist in training and orientation of new drivers, including familiarizing them with district protocols and scheduling systems. Coordinate substitute drivers and vehicles as necessary to ensure full route coverage. Assist with district transportation events, field trips, and special requests as needed. Regular and predictable in-person attendance is required for this position. Other duties as assignedWorking Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, see, and hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move 60 pounds or more, be able to push/pull wheelchairs up to 50 lbs. The employee may have to engage in the physical management of students in order to maintain a safe environment. Employee may, upon request, have to travel to different work locations. Noise levels are typically moderate.Pay:
