Job Description

Our client, a respected regional, employee-owned civil engineering firm , is seeking a Transportation Drainage Engineer to join their Salt Lake City team. This senior-level role focuses on delivering high-quality drainage and stormwater designs for major transportation and roadway projects across the Mountain West. Key Responsibilities Lead drainage design for roadway, highway, and transportation infrastructure projects Perform complex hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HY-8, StormCAD, Civil 3D, and related tools Prepare and review drainage reports, stormwater management plans, and impact analyses Design culverts, storm sewer systems, detention/retention basins, and erosion control measures Serve as a technical resource for transportation teams and provide expert-level guidance on drainage components Coordinate with state DOTs, local municipalities, regulatory agencies, and internal project teams Oversee QA/QC reviews for calculations, plans, and technical deliverables Assist with project scoping, proposal development, and client communications Mentor junior engineers and support team development Required Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) license 7+ years of civil engineering experience , with a strong emphasis on roadway/transportation drainage Demonstrated experience with drainage design for DOT (UDOT preferred) or municipal projects Proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools and CAD-based workflows Strong knowledge of stormwater regulations, permitting, and design criteria Ability to collaborate across disciplines and communicate effectively with clients and project teams Preferred Experience Experience with UDOT, ITD, municipal public works, or FHWA-funded projects Familiarity with advanced 2D modeling (SRH-2D, XP-SWMM, similar tools) Prior experience mentoring or guiding junior staff Ability to support project management tasks Why You'll Love Working Here Employee-owned firm with meaningful long-term financial benefits Hybrid flexibility , allowing a mix of home and office work Strong regional footprint with diverse, high-impact transportation projects Collaborative, down-to-earth team environment Clear pathways for career advancement and technical leadership Competitive compensation, ESOP participation, and comprehensive benefits Get job alerts Share Copied to clipboard Related roles Water/ Wastewater Project Manager•Gresham, OR
