Job Description
Transportation Engineer IIPosition SummaryThe Transportation Engineer II supports the Project Manager and project team through efficient, high-quality plan production. This role requires a self-motivated individual who works well both independently and in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate is capable of making sound independent and design decisions while contributing to successful project delivery.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop complex roadway and intersection alignments/layouts, right-of-way plans, and drainage plans.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of hydrology and drainage design principles.
Prepare phased ESPC plans and BMP designs.
Apply GDOT design standards using MicroStation and InRoads/OpenRoads.
Quickly learn and apply new design procedures, standards, and local ordinances.
Coordinate with utility providers to support utility relocation efforts.
Generate accurate cross sections and profiles using MicroStation and InRoads/OpenRoads.
Prepare Signing and Marking Plans and Construction Phasing Plans.
Apply knowledge of GDOT's Project Development Process (PDP), Preconstruction Project Guide (PPG), and Engineering Design Guide (EDG).Interpret and evaluate survey data and documentation to ensure quality and accuracy.
Prepare detailed and accurate construction cost estimates.
Anticipate project needs related to scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and staff.
Communicate effectively and build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university.
Minimum of four (4) years of relevant transportation design or related experience.
Registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in Georgia required.
Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Georgia preferred.
Strong proficiency in MicroStation and InRoads/OpenRoads.
Working knowledge of Hydraflow, Storm Sewer, HEC‑1, and HEC‑2.Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, and Adobe/PDF software.
