Job Description

The MCPT Transportation Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of MCPT vehicles and transportation equipment. This role ensures that all vehicles are safe, compliant with IDOT and FTA regulations, and operating efficiently. The coordinator works closely with drivers, dispatchers, mechanics, vendors, and management to schedule maintenance, track repairs, and minimize downtime.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Minimum High school diploma or GED required; associate's degree in automotive technology, logistics, or related field preferred 2-5 years of experience in fleet maintenance, transportation, or logistics coordination Knowledge of vehicle maintenance practices and safety standards Familiarity with DOT regulations and compliance requirements Strong organizational and record-keeping skills Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment Good communication and problem-solving skills Proficiency in maintenance management software and Microsoft Office Critical thinking and knowledge of analytics Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds Ability to be mobile without any limitations or restrictions Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or ability to obtain) Must have a valid government-issued phot
ID Preferred Skills:
Experience with fleet management systems (e.g. Samsara) Experience with route mapping and scheduling software (CTS Tripmaster or equivalent platforms). Basic mechanical knowledge or prior hands-on experience Budget tracking and cost analysis experience Vendor management experience
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate and schedule preventive maintenance and repairs for fleet vehicles (vans, buses, or specialty equipment) Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and repairs Monitor vehicle performance and identify recurring mechanical issues Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations (e.g., DOT requirements) Communicates with drivers to address reported vehicle issues Liaise with manufacturers, upfitters, dealerships, repair shops, and fleet management companies. Track maintenance costs and assist with budgeting and cost control Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies Support vehicle inspections and audits Assist in developing maintenance policies and procedures Ensure vehicles meet safety standards and are ready for operation Assist with dispatching duties and communicate with customers electronically and via telephone to schedule pick-up and delivery, and to provide updates as needed. Planning, organizing, and coordinating vehicle maintenance to ensure work is completed and consistent with the company's standard. Arranging repairs and routine maintenance of transportation vehicles Complying with transportation-related policies, as well as safety rules, grant requirements, and government regulations. Promoting safe work activities by conducting safety audits and attending company safety meetings. Collaborate with Transportation Director and PCOM to ensure full compliance of all IDOT regulations as it related to vehicle maintenance for the program. Conduct driving assignments as a back-up or fill-in driver Review and assess pre and post trip inspection reports Document all necessary repairs and discuss with Transportation Director if repairs can be conducted internally or justify a repair conducted by a repair shop. Inventory and coordinate vehicle supplies and materials associated with vehicle safety and daily vehicle operations. Conduct routine spot checks to ensure vehicles are within appropriate working order. Assess vehicles following repairs to ensure repairs were conducted appropriately and to eliminate additional downtime of vehicles. Manage inventory of vehicle keys and ensure all vehicle keys are accounted for and available for utilization by drivers. Conducts routine assessments on vehicle lifts and ramps to ensure proper functional order. Conducts routine maintenance on vehicle lifts and ramps to ensure proper functional order. Pay:
$23.00 - $25.00 per hour
