Job Posting Transportation Planner Employer Connecticut Metropolitan Council of Governments Bridgeport, Connecticut Description The Connecticut Metropolitan Council of Governments (MetroCOG) is a multi-disciplinary regional planning agency established under Connecticut General Statutes. MetroCOG works with our member municipalities (the City of Bridgeport and the Towns of Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford and Trumbull) to identify, initiate and administer projects, programs, and funding opportunities that are beneficial to both the municipality and the Region as a whole. MetroCOG is guided by our Board of Directors, which consists of the Chief Elected Officials (Mayors, First Selectman) our of our member municipalities. MetroCOG also serves as the host agency for the Greater Bridgeport & Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization (GBVMPO), which is the federally designated transportation planning agency for the Greater Bridgeport Region. As one of two primary MPOs for the Bridgeport-Stamford Urbanized Area, the GBVMPO performs and coordinates the transportation planning activities in accordance with all applicable federal regulations and guidance. GBVMPO conducts the transportation planning process through cooperative relationships between regional transit operators, the Connecticut Department of Transportation, the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection, and federal transportation agencies - the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). MPO's play a crucial role in transportation policy, coordinating transportation projects and programming federal transportation funds across federal, state, and local agencies.
The Role:
MetroCOG is seeking a well-qualified, highly-motivated, professional to serve as Transportation Planner. Under the guidance and supervision of the Deputy Director or their designee, the Transportation Planner performs professional and technical work involving transportation policy and planning including but not limited to: data collection, analysis and reporting; oversight of transportation studies, programs, and special projects; report writing; grant identification, writing, and administration; project management (including procurement, contract negotiation, implementation, and closeout); participation on technical advisory committees and working groups; government relations; public outreach and education; and other responsibilities pertaining to the transportation planning process.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
The Transportation Planner position requires a general knowledge of multi-modal transportation planning. Knowledge of federal transportation planning rules/regulations and government operations is preferred. Candidates should possess strong oral & written communication and interpersonal skills; have the ability to interpret laws and regulations, be proficient with computer software; build and maintain working relationships with agency staff, board members, municipal partners, consultants, appointed and elected officials and members of the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Regional/City/Urban Planning, Transportation/Civil Engineering, Public Administration or a closely related field. Master's Degree preferred OR an appropriate combination of education and experience.

This is a full-time position. Salary is commensurate with experience.
