Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION
Please apply by 5:00 PM on June 1, 2026 Tompkins County seeks a Transportation Planner to work directly with transit and mobility organizations to provide community mobility programs and help administer public transportation grant programs. This position will be filled as either Transportation Planner I (entry-level) or Transportation Planner II (mid-level) depending on experience and qualifications. Starting salary ranges from $68,723 - $73,861, increasing to $72,342 - $77,771 after 9 months. Flexible work options including hybrid telework arrangements may be available. Tompkins County is centrally located in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of New York and is home to Cornell University and Ithaca College. The perfect work-life balance location, Ithaca's vibrant downtown is especially enticing with our eclectic shops, outdoor dining, Ithaca Commons, and our spectacular 'gorges' views and waterfalls. Come work with us in a place where you will be valued, appreciated, and connected to an amazing group of volunteers and professionals who care about creating a better quality of life for our residents. While the Department's staff of 14 work collaboratively across disciplines, this position is part of a team of 3 focused on transit, mobility management, and transportation. We are looking for an innovative, team-oriented person with an eye for detail to administer projects and programs, ensure that recipients of state and federal funds comply with regulations and program guidelines, and work directly with a variety of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have expertise in transportation issues and/or experience administering grants and programs. However, we are primarily looking for a person with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to implement programs from the ground up.Similar remote jobs
