About The Role:
The Quad Cities International Airport is looking for an eager applicant for the Airport Police and Fire Officer position. Under the direction of the Airport Police and Fire Chief, the Airport Police and Fire Officer provides police protection and aircraft fire suppression and rescue services for the Quad Cities International Airport. Key Requirements:
Must be a certified Police Officer in the State of Illinois or have the ability to obtain a waiver from ILETSB based on previous training and experience in another state. Must be 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen. Ability to pass a post-employment offer physical examinations, including respirator test and drug screen. Ability to pass a police background check. Ability to pass a background investigation to obtain unescorted Airport Identification Access privileges. Ability to operate a vehicle and possession of a valid driver's license.
Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED. EMS, firefighter or law enforcement background beneficial. Knowledge of FAA and TSA regulations that affect airport security and ARFF requirements and state, federal and local regulations regarding police powers and firefighter methods. Ability to learn and apply airport policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols relating to the protection and security pf the airport. Ability to use handheld and ground radios to effectively communicate and report physical location at all times. Ability to exercise sound independent judgment and initiative in a wide variety of situations within established guidelines. Ability to act quickly and appropriately in emergencies and regarding suspicious situations and potential threats to people and property. Ability to prepare clear, concise and accurate records and reports. Ability to work effectively and courteously with all levels of management, supervisors, staff, visitors, officials and other agencies, emergency personnel and others encountered in the course of work. Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responds to all emergencies, including fuel spills, fire suppression, victim rescue, first aid, on-site accidents/incidents, medicals etc. Responds to alarms and dispatched calls via foot or vehicle; decides what actions to take based on the situation, facts known and position limitations. Protects airport property and persons by citation, arrest, or other intervention. Patrols airport property and persons by foot or vehicle and identifies security breaches, safety hazards and problems. Investigates suspicious activities and situations observed through field or electronic surveillance. Circulates among visitors, tenants and employees to preserve order and protect property. Warns persons of rule infractions or violations, and detains, apprehends or evicts violators from premises, using force when necessary. Interviews suspects, victims and witnesses and prepares/submits written reports regarding criminal incidents, on-site accidents, hazards, notices or security infractions. Takes incoming calls, refers to others, takes complaints or dispatches resources, as necessary. Performs emergency dispatch and communication functions. Dispatches enforcement and other emergency units and makes required notifications. Escorts unauthorized individuals in the secured areas of the airport. May operate and monitor security control panels, alarms and related security equipment to provide area and visitor security. Monitors weather conditions, reporting threatening conditions. Organizes and maintains all required paperwork, logs, activity and incident reports, etc. Operates a variety of computer, electronic access, surveillance and other equipment. Follows and complies with all safety and work rules and regulations. Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
