GED Driver's License Full Job Description Purpose of Classification:
An employee in the classification serves as a safety and information ambassador. They are responsible for assisting airport passengers and visitors with traffic flow, pedestrian safety, information, directions, and directs vehicle traffic to the proper areas of the airport. This employee will look after parking facilities and may write parking violations as needed. They will also assist the Department of Public Safety during emergency situations and observe and report safety issues or situations at the terminal, parking facilities, or other airport property as needed.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Provides assistance and customer service to the traveling public and other users of the Columbia Metropolitan Airport; directs and provides travelers directions to various locations throughout the airport and surrounding areas and points of interest within the region. Patrols airport roadways, parking lots and passenger loading/unloading zones, enforcing relevant codes and regulations; issues citations for violations of terminal curbside parking regulations. Enforces relevant federal, state and local codes and regulations governing the operations of for-hire and other commercial vehicles at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. Observes and reports unattended baggage and other suspicious situations to law enforcement. Participates in announced and unannounced vehicle safety inspections of taxis, shuttles, for-hire limousines, and courtesy vehicles. Assists with the emergency evacuation of airport terminal for fire alarms, bomb threats and other emergency situations. Operates a two-way radio and cell phone to communicate with other airport personnel and to assist travelers. Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic at the main terminal of the Columbia Metropolitan Airport to ensure the curbside is free of unattended vehicles. Acts as a liaison between the airport, the traveling public, tenants, vendors, and ground transportation companies to ensure the airport's rules and regulations are followed.
Additional Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent Registered voter in the state of South Carolina Valid SC driver's license Consent to and pass random drug screenings. Pass preemployment background investigation which includes criminal history and Driving Record. Fluent in English, with the ability to speak, read and write.

This position is classified as "heavy" to "very heavy" work in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. This position requires the ability to work in inclement weather; extreme heat and cold on occasion and ability to work in confined spaces and/or high spaces; climbing ladders, scaffolding, etc. This position is subject to work with exposure to toxic chemicals on occasion and noxious chemicals on a regular basis; occasional exposure to blood borne pathogens or bodily fluids and extreme noise and hazards such as proximity to moving or mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electric current, etc. Physical demands are more than those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, walk and/or run. Must be physically fit and be able to defend oneself from attack or physical assault. Must be able to lift and/or carry victims of varying weights.
