$38 - $45 per hour About Marin Country Day School (MCDS) MCDS is an independent, K-8, co-educational school of 600 students. Our mission is to create an inclusive community of learning that inspires curiosity, empathy, and action. Located on a 35-acre campus on the hillside of Ring Mountain, we provide a student-centered environment framed around experiential and place-based education. Position Summary The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe, reliable, and professional transportation of MCDS students and staff. This role requires strict compliance with CDE, CHP, and DOT regulations. We are looking for a driver who demonstrates excellent judgment, strong safety awareness, and a student-centered approach.
Primary Responsibilities Safe Operations:
Safely operate a school bus along designated routes; pick up and discharge students according to scheduled times.
Student Safety:
Stop traffic and escort students across streets as necessary; maintain order and discipline on the bus following school policies.
Inspections & Maintenance:
Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections; report mechanical malfunctions promptly; keep the bus clean and refueled.
Field Trips:
Transport students, faculty, and parents for school events; assist with loading luggage and equipment.
Emergency Response:
Determine appropriate action in medical or other emergencies and administer first aid as needed.
Reporting:
Maintain accurate logs, timesheets, and mileage reports. Use SchoolPass to verify student ridership and dismissal information.
Professionalism:
Attend all required safety meetings and represent MCDS professionally when interacting with families and the public. Minimum Requirements Must be at least 21 years old with a valid U.S. driver's license held for at least 3 years. Valid California Commercial Driver License (Class A or B) with: Passenger (P) endorsement School Bus (S) certificate Air brake endorsement Valid California School Bus Driver Special Certificate issued by the CHP. Valid DL-51 medical exam and ability to pass all required physicals. Valid First Aid Certification from an authorized agency. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and participate in DOT drug/alcohol testing. (
Note:
DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana). Preferred Qualifications Prior school bus driving experience. Familiarity with the MCDS community and Marin County/San Francisco road patterns. Physical Requirements & Work Environment Ability to sit for extended periods and operate vehicle controls. Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 40 lbs. Willingness to work in varying weather, traffic, and noise conditions.
Schedule:
Early morning and afternoon split shifts; occasional evening or weekend assignments. Compensation & Benefits MCDS offers a competitive package including:
