Jacksonville, FL Job Details $20.00 - $20.01 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Customer communication Passenger Endorsement In-person customer service Wheelchair mobility assistance CDL Mechanical knowledge Full Job Description A county-to-county cutaway CDL bus driver transports passengers safely and efficiently over set routes, requiring a CDL with endorsements (like 'P' for Passenger, 'S' for School Bus), performing pre/post-trip inspections, maintaining discipline, assisting with ADA needs (lifts/ramps), collecting fares, and following strict schedules and traffic laws, all while acting as a customer service representative and completing necessary reports, often involving varied shifts and physical demands. Core Responsibilities Safe Vehicle Operation:
Drive cutaway buses (small to medium size) safely, adhering to all city, county, state, and federal laws, maintaining proper speed, and following routes and schedules. Passenger Safety:
Secure passengers (especially ADA wheelchair users), maintain order, instruct on safety, and manage unruly behavior. Customer Service:
Provide courteous information, assist passengers, handle fare collection/passes, and make public address announcements. Vehicle Maintenance:
Conduct daily pre-trip (brakes, lights, tires, mirrors) and post-trip inspections, report mechanical issues immediately, and keep the bus clean. Reporting:
Complete daily logs, incident reports, and other required transportation documents accurately. Key Requirements & Skills License:
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) endorsement. Experience:
Clean driving record; experience with small buses or transit operations is helpful. Physical:
Ability to lift (e.g., 45+ lbs), operate lifts/ramps, handle vibrations/noise, and sit for extended periods. Knowledge:
Familiarity with routes, schedules, fare structures, and basic bus mechanics. Attributes:
Strong customer service, communication, problem-solving, and observation skills. Work Environment Schedules:
All split shifts, 5am-8am & 5pm-8pm Physical Demands:
Driving, assisting passengers, climbing, reaching, and working in varied conditions (weather, noise, fumes).
