Job Description

The Wilmette Park District offers Summer Short-term staff the following benefits: Individual Seasonal Beach and Pool Pass, one (1) parking decal for Gillson Beach (over 16 years of age only), and Individual Center Fitness Club Membership for June - August 2026.
JOB SUMMARY
: Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Bus Driver PT is responsible for transporting children and adults to and from Park District programs, daily cleaning of the bus, completing daily vehicle safety inspections, and reporting any vehicle problems to the immediate supervisor. This is a short-term position.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
: None
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Transport children and adults to and from Park District programs safely and on time Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the Park District vehicle, both inside and out Obey all State of Illinois traffic laws pertaining to driving a bus Conduct daily vehicle safety inspections Report on all vehicle & passenger problems to the supervisor Maintain driver's license status Actively contribute to the Park District's sustainability goals Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively support the safety program that will effectively control and reduce accidents Obey the practical safety rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Wilmette Park District safety program that are pertinent to the activities conducted by the department Become familiar with and follow the safety procedures of the Wilmette Park District, including, but not limited to, fire, severe weather, and evacuation procedures Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices, or conditions observed to the immediate supervisor, Human Resources/Risk Management division Attend and participate in required safety training
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Must be at least 18 years of age High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or job-related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License with air-brake and passenger endorsements
OR:
Maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's license with a passenger endorsement to drive a non-air-brake bus
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Occasionally required to stand and walk Frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; push/pull objects; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus Maintain close supervision of children when assisting in programs The noise level of the work environment is usually loud Must be available during the hours of 8 am and 4 pm during the summer season Non-summer hours and days of work may vary and are based upon programming needs Drivers are required to arrive 30 minutes to 1 hour before their scheduled route to complete pre-trip inspections and/or heat the bus
HOURS:
Typical hours: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Weekly hours: 15 to 30 hours based on camp schedule
