Job Description

Position Summary We're looking for a Bus Driver who is reliable, patient, and committed to helping our students get to school safely each day. This role is all about providing dependable transportation and creating a safe, calm environment for our teens—many of whom are working hard on their recovery. You'll be a steady, supportive presence in their daily routine. We are currently hiring TWO Bus Drivers to cover split daily routes. One position is for the morning shift, running from 7:00 AM to 11:30 AM , and the other is for the afternoon shift, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM . Candidates may apply for either shift based on availability. About Hope Academy Hope Academy is a tuition-free, public charter high school that provides a safe, sober and challenging academic experience for Indy-area teens. As a Simon Youth Academy and IPS Innovation school, Hope Academy offers its students a truly unique and individualized high school experience. We are centrally located just minutes from downtown near the campus of the University of Indianapolis with convenient access via Indy Go's Red Line. Hope Academy is one of only seven recovery high schools in the United States accredited by the Association of Recovery High Schools. Additionally, Hope Academy has partnered with the Simon Youth Foundation and IPS to bridge a gap to serve more students in the Indianapolis area. Students who receive ongoing support for substance use issues have higher graduation rates, lower absentee rates and are more likely to abstain from using substances. Parents and loved ones are part of the Hope Academy experience for all our students. They will play an integral role in their students' journey of recovery and will receive the same guidance, support and encouragement from our staff, while connecting with other parents and our community. Essential Job Functions Drive students to and from school safely every day. Keep the bus environment safe, friendly, and orderly. Do simple daily bus checks before and after your route. Follow all traffic laws and safety rules. Communicate with school staff as needed about schedules or concerns. Drive students to school events and activities when requested. Keep basic records like mileage logs or incident reports. Skill Competencies Interpersonal Skills Demonstrates patience, empathy, and calm when interacting with students. Maintains professionalism and appropriate boundaries at all times. Shows respect for individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Able to de-escalate minor conflicts and support a positive bus environment. Professional Skills Dependable, punctual, and committed to student safety. Ability to follow established routes, schedules, and safety procedures. Demonstrates adaptability and sound judgment in unexpected situations. Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle. Ability to assist students entering or exiting the bus if needed. Ability to conduct standard bus inspections, including climbing, bending, or kneeling. Working Conditions Early morning and afternoon work required, and early evenings for school events. Exposure to varying weather conditions while operating or inspecting the bus. Must be able to safely transport students within the local community. Previous school bus or commercial driving experience preferred. Clean driving record with no major traffic violations. Ability to work effectively with teens.
