Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and energetic 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) PRN Bus Driver to join our team! In this vital role, you will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from program activities, ensuring a secure and positive experience for children and their families. Your enthusiasm, strong communication skills, and commitment to safety will help foster a welcoming environment while supporting educational and extracurricular programs. This position offers flexible hours and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community through reliable transportation services. Work Schedule (PRN) Academic Year (August-May)
- 1:30pm-6:30pm Monday
- Thursday 9:00am-11:00am Friday (as needed/assigned) Summer Program (5-6 weeks, June-July)
- 8:30am-1:30pm Monday
- Thursday 9:00am-11:00am Friday (as needed/assigned)
Note:
position may have breaks over Christmas/New Years holiday and between academic year and summer programming Duties Safely operate school buses and community transport vehicles to pick up and drop off children participating in after-school programs Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles, including checking mechanical systems, safety equipment, and cleanliness before each route Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies during transportation duties Communicate effectively with program staff to ensure smooth coordination of transportation schedules Assist children with boarding and exiting the bus, providing support for those with special needs or disabilities as required Maintain accurate logs of routes, passenger counts, and any incidents or delays during transportation shifts Report any vehicle issues or safety concerns promptly to supervisors for immediate resolution Skills Proven experience in bus driving or commercial driving with a valid driver's license appropriate for passenger transport (e.g., CDL with passenger endorsement) Strong knowledge of driving safety protocols, traffic laws, and vehicle maintenance basics Excellent communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse communities Ability to work with children effectively, demonstrating patience, behavior management skills, and a caring attitude Mechanical knowledge to perform routine vehicle inspections and minor repairs if necessary Customer service skills to interact positively with students, parents, and staff in a friendly manner Experience working with special needs children or in childcare settings is preferred Knowledge of paratransit services or school bus driving regulations is advantageous Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently while maintaining safety standards Join us as a vital part of our community-focused team!
