Bus Driver SubstituteThis position is posted to create a pool of candidates. Eligible Candidates will be contacted as positions become available.JOB SUMMARY
Operates a school bus in transporting comprehensive and special education students to and from schools. Work involves responsibility for making daily pre-trip, post trip and safety inspection; notifying appropriate persons in case of mechanical breakdowns, delays, or accidents; and completing required forms or reports as designated.Additional Work Days/HoursBased on the assignment, the following additional work days and/or hours may be required as needed:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates a school bus in transporting authorized special education students to and from schools from designated schools/locations.
- Makes daily pre-trip and post trip safety inspection before operation; and reports mechanical defects to repair shop personnel, accordingly.
- Drives vehicle in a safe and prudent manner, obeying all State and local traffic laws and Transportation Division Regulations. Notifies appropriate persons in case of mechanical breakdowns. Reports all accidents and completes required report as instructed.
- Maintains discipline of students aboard school bus; and reports cases of misbehavior or other problems to school administration/Transportation officials.
- Ads to and maintains assigned work schedules and designated routes. Reports any prolonged traffic delays and/or lateness to supervisors.
- Attends in-service training conducted by the Transportation Division.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate preferred.
Other:
Based on the training schedule, thirty (30) hours of Pre-service classroom and driving training through Anne Arundel County Public Schools required.Experience
- Five (5) years actual driving experience during which time a valid operator's license was held required.
- Less than one (1) year experience in dealing with special needs students preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge in dealing with special needs students preferred.
- Ability to exercise considerable patience and to assist the special needs students during their transportation to and from school.
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students and parents.
- Ability to communicate in written and verbal forms with staff, students and parents.
- Ability to work independently as necessary.
- Ability to have good judgement when working with students.
- Ability to pass the annual Maryland State Bus Driver Physical Examination required.
- Hold or be eligible for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification issued by American Heart Association, Inc (AHA) or American Red Cross authorized training centers required.
- Hold or be eligible for First Aid Certification issued by American Heart Association, Inc (AHA) or American Red Cross authorized training centers required.
- Upon hire, Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required.
- Within 30 days, obtain Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with Passenger Transport (P) and School Bus Authorized (S) endorsement (Maryland) issued by Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) required.
- Proof of a good driving record required.
- Daily access to reliable transportation.
- Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
