Job Description

Founded in 1961, Sandy Spring Friends School is a Quaker, coed, academically rigorous day school serving students from age three through 12th grade. The campus is located on 140 acres in the historic Sandy Spring area of Montgomery County, Maryland, and the School is approved by the Maryland State Board of Education and accredited by the Association of Independent Maryland Schools. Our school's culture, rooted in the idea that collaboration engenders achievement, can be traced to our Quaker heritage and abiding belief in the Quaker values of simplicity, equality, honesty, stewardship of the environment, and peaceful resolution of conflict.
Summary:
Sandy Spring Friends School seeks experienced drivers to operate a school bus transporting children in a safe and courteous manner to and from school, and on special trips. Candidates must be at least 25 years of age, be willing to work a 10-month split shift work schedule, and will be responsible for following an assigned route and schedule. Additional runs for field trips and summer hours may be available.
Qualifications include:
A high school diploma or equivalent; ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to perform all of the duties of the position; and a valid Maryland driver's license is a must. Drivers are required to submit to a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and random screenings post employment.
Required:
Valid Maryland Commercial Driver's License for School Bus (Class B, P-Passenger and S-School Bus Endorsements) and current Medical Examiner's Certificate (in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations 49 CFR 391.41-391.49). Must have valid First Aid, CPR and AED certifications.

Essential Physical Requirements:
Bus driving requires sitting for long periods of time; moderate bending, squatting, kneeling, and twisting; using hands and feet to navigate controls; ability to drive after dark; and if necessary in an emergency, the ability to lift, push/pull, and carry children of various sizes. Also required is normal vision including distance, peripheral, and depth perception; normal visual color discrimination and normal hearing.
