Director of Transportation and Supervisor of Transportation General Summary The Bus Driver, under the direction of the Transportation Director, is responsible for the safe transportation of special education students for the Saginaw Intermediate School District. Additional duties include managing the operation of the bus to maintain a safe and hazard-free environment for all students. Essential Job Responsibilities Meet requirements and follow rules and regulations established by the Michigan Department of Education and Saginaw ISD. Obey all laws governing vehicle and school bus operation. Maintain a safe environment on the bus. Take responsibility for the bus, its equipment, passengers, and the bus attendant. Complete and document daily pre-trip vehicle inspections, immediately reporting any needed repairs. Attend CPR/First Aid classes and other training sessions as directed. Work with the bus assistant and district staff to meet the individual medical, safety, and behavioral needs of transported students. Report to assigned work site on time, ready to perform duties. Implement behavior management plans in cooperation with program staff. Properly secure wheelchairs and child restraint systems. Maintain confidentiality regarding student, parent, and staff information. Maintain a positive attitude with students, parents, community members, and staff. Other Job Responsibilities Prepare and maintain route sheets. Complete "Accident Reports" after any incident involving the bus or passengers. Prepare required reports and maintain necessary records. Assist Transportation leadership in mapping routes and planning schedules as needed. Perform additional related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalency Appropriate commercial driver's license and bus driver's certification Excellent driving record Prior experience working with children; experience with special needs children preferred Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and coworkers Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to lift at least 75 pounds Excellent oral and written communication skills Working knowledge of computer keyboarding skills Willingness to receive additional job-related training Notice of Nondiscrimination Saginaw Intermediate School District does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender and gender identity, disability, age, or national origin in its programs and activities and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups.
