Bus Driver 2026-27 (AFSCME) Lake Shore Public Schools - 4.8 Saint Clair Shores, MI Job Details Full-time $20.95 - $27.88 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications CDL Vehicle maintenance Full Job Description Summary We are seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious individual to join our team as a Bus Driver. This full-time position involves transporting passengers safely and efficiently while adhering to all traffic laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess excellent driving skills, a commitment to customer service, and the ability to maintain a clean and safe vehicle environment. Essential Functions Perform required pre-trip and post-trip inspections and document findings in accordance with district transportation procedures. Report mechanical concerns, defects, or safety issues promptly to transportation staff. Operate assigned school bus routes and schedules in accordance with district expectations and applicable laws. Adhere to all traffic laws, school bus regulations, and district transportation procedures. Safely transport authorized students to and from designated locations. Maintain appropriate student behavior and implement district-approved discipline procedures while riding the bus. Communicate student concerns or disciplinary issues to appropriate school personnel. Conduct required post-route inspections to ensure no students remain on the bus and to identify damage or irregularities. Maintain a clean and orderly bus environment to support safety and health standards. Complete accident reports, incident documentation, and other required records accurately and in a timely manner. Maintain responsibility for student safety during emergency situations, including evacuation procedures and accident response. Secure the bus appropriately following route completion. Maintain positive and professional interactions with students, families, and district personnel. Attend required training and maintain certifications as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Valid Michigan Commercial Driver License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements and certifications required for school bus operation. Valid Michigan School Bus Driver Certification. Ability to meet all state and district requirements for school bus drivers. Demonstrated ability to safely operate a school bus and maintain student supervision. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members. Ability to communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality when appropriate. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Physical ability to assist passengers and perform necessary vehicle maintenance tasks. Must pass a background check and drug screening as required by law. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of school transportation safety procedures, traffic laws, and school bus regulations. Knowledge of safe driving practices and emergency procedures. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making in various situations. Ability to maintain appropriate student behavior in a transportation setting. Ability to complete reports and maintain required records. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle. Ability to quickly respond in emergency situations, including rapidly applying vehicle controls and assisting students during evacuations. Ability to enter, exit, and move throughout the bus repeatedly during the workday. Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally, 25 pounds frequently, and lesser amounts continuously. Ability to bend, stoop, reach, crouch, climb bus steps, and assist students as needed. Ability to visually monitor surroundings and recognize traffic signals and hazards. Ability to hear and distinguish safety warnings, emergency signals, and student needs. Ability to communicate effectively verbally. Terms of Employment Full-Time, 40
