POSITION SUMMARY
The position exists to provide safe transportation to and from school and school-related activities for students in the Rockwood School District, for teachers/coaches/parents/chaperones on field trips and activity trips, and for all other passengers authorized and approved by the Transportation Department in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Entry Wage $21.74 per hour as of July 1, 2026 SCHOOL

DESCRIPTION
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS
Drive bus over route as written by the transportation department. Report unsafe bus stops, time changes, or general route changes and conditions to the Operations Supervisor or designee. Keep route sheets up-dated at all times. Enforce rules of proper bus behavior with all passengers. Report student misconduct to proper school and/or department personnel. Assist school administrators, teachers and parents in promoting a positive driver-student-school relationship. Drive safely and courteously, keeping in mind that you are Rockwood's representative on the roads and streets of the district. Maintain a good attendance record. Good attendance is mandatory for a safe, on-time and consistent transportation program. Attend safety meetings and workshops as required by district policy and state licensing requirements. Observe rules, regulations and responsibilities for bus drivers contained in the Transportation Department handbook. Keep two-way radio on at all times that bus is in operation. Inspect bus before each route, and check fuel level before leaving bus lot. Following each run, check the bus for lost or sleeping children and objects left behind by student passengers. Sweep the bus and empty trash can(s) daily. Dust dash and perform other housekeeping duties as necessary to maintain the interior cleanliness of the bus. Prepare all forms accurately and thoroughly, and submit on time as required by the transportation department. Conduct emergency evacuation drills in accordance with state regulations and district policy. Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with employees of all levels, as well as parents, students and community members. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment. Ability to possess a calm demeanor when dealing with students, parents and school personnel. Maintain composure when confronted by angry motorists. Ability to walk up and down bus stairs; exit through emergency door when necessary. Ability to evacuate bus, if necessary, including the ability to lift, move, or drag students weighing 100 +/- pounds in the event of an emergency. Ability to drive bus extremely hot or cold temperatures, and all types of weather including snow, sleet, rain, etc. Ability to fasten and unfasten physical restraint. Ability to undergo training to administer medications, including, but not limited to injections for allergies (such as peanut or bee sting allergies.) Respect for student, teachers, parents, and support staff. Ability to move throughout building and in the surrounding facility outside the office (i.e. bus parking lot).
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class A or B, without air brake restriction and with "S" (school bus) and "P" (passenger) endorsements. Must be able to drive any bus owned or operated by the district of the same classification (GVWR and equipment) allowed by the endorsements / restrictions on the Driver's CDL. Be able to pass the annual physical as prescribed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for the operation of a school bus, including PPD or X-ray for tuberculosis screen. Successfully pass random, periodic, and post-accident drug and alcohol tests in accordance with DOT regulations. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Buses, fueling equipment, cleaning equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily performed inside of a vehicle. School buses can become extremely hot (interior temperatures up to + 120 F.) during some months of the year, or cold during winter months. Interior noise levels can become very high when passengers are on board. Ability to work in a variety of locations, travel throughout the District, work non-traditional hours which may include evenings and weekends and meet the physical demands of handling a variety of needs. While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, walk, stand, reach, bend, stoop, crouch, squat and kneel.
