Job Description
The Assisted Living Bus Driver & Activities Assistant is responsible for providing safe, reliable transportation for residents to scheduled outings, appointments, and community events. In addition, this role supports the Activities Director in planning, preparing, and facilitating recreational programs, crafts, and social activities that enhance residents' quality of life. The ideal candidate is patient, creative, safety-focused, and enjoys working with older adults in a supportive, team-oriented environment. Key Responsibilities Transportation (Primary Duties) Safely operate community vehicles to transport residents to outings, appointments, shopping trips, and special events. Assist residents with boarding, seating, and exiting the vehicle, ensuring comfort and safety at all times. Conduct routine vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly. Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage, and trip records. Follow all driving regulations, facility policies, and safety protocols. Activities & Recreation Support Assist the Activities Director in planning and implementing daily, weekly, and monthly activity programs. Help prepare materials, set up spaces, and clean up after recreational activities, crafts, and group events. Engage residents in activities by offering encouragement, hands-on help, and positive social interaction. Contribute creative ideas for crafts, outings, games, and enrichment opportunities tailored to residents' abilities and interests. Support special events, holiday celebrations, and community functions. Resident Interaction & Support Build warm, respectful relationships with residents, promoting participation and well-being. Provide assistance to residents during outings and activities as needed, ensuring safety and supervision. Communicate any observations or concerns about residents' needs or behavior to the Activities Director. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (required). Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; CDL with passenger endorsement preferred (if required by the facility). Previous experience working with seniors, in transportation, or in recreational programming preferred. Ability to lift, push, and assist residents and equipment as needed. Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and a friendly, helpful attitude. Creativity and interest in crafts, activities, or recreational programming. Ability to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays based on activity schedule. Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods while driving. Ability to assist residents with mobility, including pushing wheelchairs. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and participate in set-up and clean-up tasks for activities.
