Job Description

Driving, delivering meals, and assisting senior citizens in the City of Carlin, Nevada. The position also includes janitorial and maintenance functions for the City of Carlin's Senior Center. Pay depends on experience, but the minimum is $12.60 an hour.
Essential Duties and Functions:
(Performance of these functions is the reason the job exists. Assigned job tasks/duties are not limited to the essential functions). Chauffeur/transport senior citizens to and from the Senior Center, to shopping, and to other appointments. The driver will also transport senior citizens to Senior Center-sponsored events located in our community and surrounding communities. This includes assisting seniors in boarding and exiting the bus and getting to and from the Center, their homes, and other destinations as required using the chair lift as needed for those who have wheelchairs. Assists with packing and transporting meals to isolated or homebound seniors and residents with disabilities. Place meals in the appropriate hot and cold compartments for delivery and maintain and clean compartment trays. Collect monies from homebound clients and transportation monies. Complete all documentation required by the Division of Aging and NDOT for reporting rides and meals delivered on a daily and monthly basis. Perform all duties in accordance with the Federal Transit Administration as it relates to public transit. Communicates any client welfare concerns to the Director. Inspect vehicle to ensure that it is in clean and in operable condition and has sufficient fuel for daily use. Complete daily inspection paperwork/checklist, report needed service or Page | 1 repairs, complete and submit work order for said repairs or maintenance. Janitorial duties include; 1) clean the restrooms, all doors and handles, mop the floors, remove the trash, restock paper products as needed. 2) Mop all halls and cold storage area. 3) Clean the dining room daily dusting, vacuuming and washing tables etc. 4) Wash all doors and windows as needed, and dust all rooms. 4) Sweep the walkways around the building and keep the parking lot and grounds clean. 5) Keep the garage area clean including cleaning up oil spills, and store flammable chemicals properly. 6) Report any safety issue to the Director as needed. Assist Director and Kitchen staff as needed. Qualifications for
Employment:
Must have earned a high school diploma or equivalent and have at least one-year experience in transporting/driving special needs population and/or any equivalent combination of training, education and/or experience, which demonstrates an understanding of transporting/driving special needs population and/or training or experience in a closely related field. Must be able to work 6 to 8 hours shift work on a regular basis, be reliable and punctual in attendance. Must possess the ability to handle stressful situations and interact with others well. This includes but not limited to supervisors, coworkers, staff and interact positively with senior citizens who may have a variety of physical and/or mental infirmities. Pass a background check and adhere to the provisions of the Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy of the City's Employment Policy.
Required Certifications/Licenses:
A valid Nevada Driver's License (does not have to be a commercial license). Complete a 4-hour Serve-Safe Food handling class within the first 30 days of employment required by Division of Aging. Complete an 8-hour NDOT transportation class as required by Division of Aging. Page | 2
Working Conditions:
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be able to lift items onto racks/shelves above head and have stamina to sit for long periods. Employee must also have ability to bend or stoop to place supplies at lower levels. Employee must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle in all weather conditions. Employee must be able to assist elderly people via wheelchair, scooter etc. Employee will be exposed to chemicals and solvents used in sanitizing food storage, preparation areas, restrooms, and other areas of the Senior Center. Employee must answer and talk on a telephone and interact professionally with the public/seniors, city officials and other staff.
