Description/Notes:
Primary Purpose:
To safely transport Special Programs (SPED) students to and from assigned locations, including routes to San Antonio and Seguin, while also serving as a bus monitor when not assigned to a driving route. This position ensures the safety, supervision, and well-being of students during transport.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely operate a school bus transporting Special Programs students to and from school or home Serve as a bus monitor on SPED routes when not driving Follow assigned routes and directions; adjust routes as needed due to traffic, weather, or road conditions Ensure the safety, discipline, andfort of students during transport Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus Secure wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment properly Supervise student behavior and maintain a safe environment Respond appropriately to emergency situations Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents Maintain confidentiality regarding student information
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Vehicle Operation Transport students using school vehicle daily following assigned route and adhere to established schedules. Anticipate problems such as traffic, weather, road conditions, and schedule changes and make necessary adjustment to ensure student safety and reduce delays. Perform pre- and post-trip inspections according to specifications to ensure vehicle can be operated safely and notify supervisor of needed repairs. Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, mechanical problems, andplete required corresponding reports. Student Management Supervise students being transported in vehicle. Maintain discipline and use effective behavior management control over groups of students. Report student discipline problems to appropriate administrator regarding student's behavior when warranted. Perform emergency evacuation of students on vehicle when the situation warrants. Ability to work effectively with students, including those with special needs Safety Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school vehicles. Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar, and reflector. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor. Report any hazardous conditions along scheduled routes. Maintain safety certification. Other Help to coordinate daily use of district owned vehicles. Help to monitor students on campus as needed. Strongmunication and interpersonal skills Ability to remain calm and professional in all situations Dependable, flexible, and able to follow directions

Prolonged driving; moderate walking; frequent climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching

Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
Environment:
Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria,municable diseases); work around moving vehicles

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Clear and valid Texas driver's license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Must be 18 years of age Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam Ability toplete required driver training: Successfulpletion of 20-hour school bus certification course (provided by the district) Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Proficient map reading skills Ability to manage student behavior Ability tomunicate effectively with others
