Job Description

Bloodworks Northwest is backed by more than 70 years of Northwest history and 250,000 donors. A national leader in transfusion medicine, Bloodworks has been chosen to serve more than 90 hospitals in Washington, Oregon and Alaska - partnering closely with local hospitals to deliver the highest level of patient care. Patients with traumatic injuries, undergoing surgeries or organ transplantation, or receiving treatment for cancer and blood disorders all depend on our services, expertise, laboratories and research. We are local, nonprofit, independent, volunteer-supported and community-based. We have an opening for a Courier II to join the Regional Transportation team at Bloodworks Northwest. The incumbent in this role will independently and proficiently provide reliable, efficient transportation of blood components, blood-related products, blood samples, and other business-related materials for Bloodworks Northwest and its customers. There is career progression in this role from levels I-IV. Principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Proficiently perform all Regional Courier duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: blood, platelets, samples, donor records, pharmaceuticals, full and empty blood containers, sample containers, racks, supplies, and mail, etc., to and from locations that may include BWNW facilities, hospital laboratories, medical centers, satellite collection and mobile collection sites, and Product Manufacturing. Maintain an accurate and complete log of all shipments handled. Ensure full compliance with the standards outlined in the BWNW Vehicle Safety and Training Policy when operating or riding in company vehicles. Attend required in-service training, staff meetings, and driver training courses. Maintain a professional appearance, including the required wearing of issued uniform articles. Assist the Regional Courier Scheduler and/or the Dispatcher with any necessary direction revisions, as well as report any procedural or other changes that may be required to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the functions of the Transportation Department. Specific job skills include, but are not limited to: Safe communication on cell phones, pagers, voice mail, e-mail, text messaging, and possibly other electronic devices; safely operate various BWNW vehicles, use PC's to obtain directions and maps; and read and understand policies, procedures, and instructions Required physical activities include frequent entering, exiting, and driving various BWNW vehicles; walking; sitting; talking; hearing; pushing, pulling, and lifting articles of various shapes, sizes, and weights. Other required physical activities used less frequently include standing, bending, and reaching (occasionally); stooping and kneeling (rarely). The clearance process may require the incumbent to undergo additional screening beyond Bloodworks NW's required pre-employment screening. The ability to operate a motor vehicle, push and pull 250 lbs, and lift and carry up to 5000 lbs throughout a normal day. Position requires some overtime, on-callstatus (occasionally);, evening meetings, and heavy lifting (rarely). Ability to lift to 60 pounds. Must be able to adjust to a variety of vehicles.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Possess and maintain a driver's license for at least 3 years. Valid WA State Driver's License in WA, with an acceptable driving record. Use of a company or personal vehicle for company business requires an acceptable driver's record as defined by the vehicle policy. Must meet MVR standards required by Bloodworks Vehicle Safety and Training Policy. To access certain client facilities, the incumbent may be required to apply for and obtain clearance to access the client property. This clearance process may require the incumbent to undergo additional levels of screening beyond Bloodworks' required pre-employment screening.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Regional Couriers must be available to be scheduled for all work days unless assigned to a fixed work schedule. Telecommuting is not offered in this role. Bloodworks is a community-supported nonprofit organization. As such, (from time to time) the incumbent can expect to work with volunteers. As this is an essential position with direct responsibility to donors and/or patients, the incumbent should be prepared to work extended and/or consecutive shifts and/or possibly at a different location during periods of inclement weather or other emergencies. Ability to work scheduled holidays and weekends. This position has direct and indirect exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Ability to comply with Bloodworks' Mandatory Vaccinations policy.
Schedule:
1st and or 2nd swing shift.
