Background:
Eastern Carolina Housing Organization (ECHO) is a nonprofit homeless service provider serving 13 northeastern counties of South Carolina and 3 counties in North Carolina. Our corporate office is located in Myrtle Beach, SC. ECHO is seeking a Donation Center Team Member to support our donation center and housing programs by assisting with the pickup, transport, organization, and delivery of donated household goods and furnishings for individuals and families transitioning into housing. This position plays an important role in helping newly housed clients receive essential furniture and household items while ensuring donations are handled safely, respectfully, and efficiently. Position Summary The Donation Center Team Member regularly works as part of a two-person team to pick up donations from community members and partner organizations, load and unload furniture and household goods, and deliver essential items to clients in ECHO housing programs. This role also supports donation center organization, warehouse and storage upkeep, vehicle and trailer cleanliness, and other operational duties such as light maintenance, groundskeeping, and related support tasks as needed. Some pickup and delivery locations may require navigating stairs and tight spaces, so candidates must be comfortable with physically active work and frequent lifting. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Pick up donated furniture, household goods, linens, lamps, and other items from community members, businesses, churches, and partner organizations Deliver donated furniture and household items to clients participating in ECHO housing programs Work as part of a team to load, unload, move, stage, and place donated items safely and respectfully Navigate stairs, tight spaces, and varied pickup and delivery locations while protecting property and donated items from damage Assist with maintaining an organized, clean, and safe donation center, warehouse, and storage area Operate ECHO vehicles safely, including a pickup truck while towing a 16-foot enclosed trailer or similar vehicle configuration Complete daily mileage, fuel, vehicle, trailer, and safety logs accurately and on time Inspect assigned vehicles and trailer routinely and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly Maintain company vehicles and trailer in clean and safe working condition Communicate professionally with staff, clients, landlords, donors, property owners, and community members regarding pickup and delivery coordination Assist with miscellaneous operational duties, including warehouse tasks, groundskeeping, light maintenance, and donation center support Travel throughout ECHO's service area as needed Represent ECHO positively and professionally at all times Perform other related duties as assigned Qualifications Valid driver's license required Acceptable driving record Experience driving a box truck, pickup truck with trailer, or similar large vehicle on local roads and highways Ability to safely lift, push, pull, carry, and move furniture and other heavy items frequently Ability to work in a physically demanding role, including stairs, bending, reaching, and repeated lifting Ability to follow written and verbal directions Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to work well as part of a team Effective time management and attention to detail Ability to maintain accurate mileage, fuel, and safety logs Basic mechanical knowledge or willingness to learn Ability to pass background, driving, and drug screenings Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred Experience with moving, delivery, warehouse, donation center, maintenance, or related hands-on work Experience in a nonprofit or community service setting Experience serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness or other vulnerable populations Basic maintenance or groundskeeping experience Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, and pulling Regular lifting and moving of heavy furniture and household items Ability to navigate homes, apartments, warehouses, and storage areas Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions Why Join ECHO?
