Job Description

Mission Statement The mission of LifeFlight Aviation Services is to create a safe, high reliability, instrument-based aviation system for the people of Maine and greater New England. Through dedication and innovation, LFAS will support LifeFlight of Maine and the Maine hospital systems in transforming the existing critical care transport system into an integrated, high quality, patient centered system, continually improving and worthy of the public's trust. Position Summary The Assistant Chief Pilot-Rotor Wing works closely with the Chief Pilot to assure operational excellence and accountability in providing safe, efficient, and reliable Critical Care Transport to the people of Maine and the greater New England region. The Assistant Chief Pilot works with the Chief Pilot to assure that that all aviation operations are in full compliance with applicable Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR's). The CP is responsible for assurance that all flight crew maintain all required currency(s) and proficiency in aircraft assigned to LFAS's Air Carrier Certificate. The ACP-RW is a full-time salaried aviation position comprised of management requirements, concurrent responsibilities for occasional line pilot coverage and training, and requires time commitment to the after-hours on-call Flight Operations Supervisor (FOS) schedule. The ACP-RW will help to promote LifeFlight of Maine's mission statement as well as a culture of safe and legal operations, technical excellence, transparent communication, professionalism, mutual respect, and a positive, solution-oriented attitude. The Assistant Chief Pilot-Rotor Wing will maintain all qualifications of an LFAS Captain. Duties include conducting FAA check and proficiency flights or training flights and ground training activities of aviation personnel to promote a high level of knowledge and proficiency. The Assistant Chief Pilot's primary area of responsibility is the supervision of pilots, maintenance of pilot proficiency and records, and the supervision of pilot training and checking. Responsibilities 1. Supervises pilot staff assigned to a specific base or bases. Bases are located in Bangor, Lewiston, and Sanford, ME. 2. Prepares pilots for 14 CFR Parts 135.293, .297 & .299 testing/check rides through coordination of training hours and direct observation or conducts the training. 3. Conducting flight and ground training activities for aviation personnel and medical non-crewmembers to promote a high level of knowledge and proficiency. 4. Responsible for ensuring aviation medical personnel are properly trained in Aviation Safety and Awareness Training (ASAT) consisting of but not limited to: aircraft safety, operations, egress and emergency procedures. 5. Advises the CP regarding the training of individual pilot personnel and assists in aviation crew members training and standardization in compliance with the LFAS General Operations Manual (GOM) and training manuals. 6. Assists the DO/CP in formulating policies, procedures, and curriculum. 7. Assists the CP in preparing and maintaining pilot proficiency and currency records and files. 8. Supervises and, under the direction of the CP, schedules pilots at the assigned base. Will be responsible for coordinating adequate pilot coverage at their assigned base or bases. 9. Serves as a member of Training committee. 10. Provides counseling per company policies. 11. Monitors training needs and applicable dates to remain in compliance with FAR's and GOM. 12. Ensures Base pilot meetings are conducted

policy. 13. Fills schedule as a float/relief captain, as needed. 14. Promotes the safety culture of LFAS and places safety as a top priority. 15. Promotes LFAS culture. 16. Schedules simulator training for pilot staff. 17. Is responsible for employee evaluations. 18. Shares in FOS responsibilities. 19. Assists other LFAS leadership with maintenance of software and IT systems. 20. Other duties as assigned. Education and/or experience Obtain FAA Class I Physical Medical Certificate annually. ATP license. Preferred Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) or Military Equivalent
LFAS PIC
qualified in Rotary Wing aircraft. Become, or remain current as, a FAA Check Airman or Training Captain. Help develop training curriculum for both pilots and med crews. Working conditions/physical demands Ability to operate assigned aircraft and tolerate exposure to non-conventional motion, noise, vibration, chemicals (i.e. jet fumes) and extreme heat or cold. Ability to lift at least 50 pounds using proper body mechanics, bend and carry heavy equipment, and assist with carrying and loading patients. Ability to use maintenance stands and ladders to preflight aircraft. Able to refuel aircraft if required. Works in a patient care environment on the aircraft and is exposed to possible infectious diseases and chemical toxins.
