Duties Help GS11: This position is eligible to be used an Aviion Classificion Repair Activity Depot (AVCRAD) or any Army Aviion Facility where the requirement is deemed approprie by the AVCRAD Facility Supervisor or Ste Army Aviion Officer (SAAO). The purpose of this developmental pilot position is to co-pilot a variety of rotary wing aircraft in support of the missions and functions of the geographical area while gaining the required flying hours and experience to reach the full performance level of Helicopter Pilot, D2929000, GS-2181-12.
MAJOR DUTIES
Under the instruction and guidance of the pilot in Command, the incumbent co-pilots a variety of one or more of the following helicopters: Attack Helicopter (AH-64); Cargo Helicopter (CH-47); Utility Helicopter (UH-60 series), (LUH-72 series) and others when assigned. Routinely operes with short takeoffs and landing capability and may be required to perform these duties in all types of weher, day, and night over a variety of terrains and open bodies of wer. Flights are made using landing facilities ranging from modern, improved airport with paved runways and navigional aids to unimproved strips of remote, isoled villages. This position required to make reconnaissance and observion flights as needed. Makes test flights and checks all systems in connection with maintenance actions and takes necessary action to correct malfunctions. Participes in all-weher search and rescue operions as required utilizing a thorough knowledge of the terrain feures of the geographical area. The ability to fly over unfavorable terrain primarily under visual flight conditions. Conducts flight checks following repairs, maintenance, or installion of approved aircraft system modificions. Responsible for transportion of cargo and transporting passengers, among a variety of familiar destinions Under the supervision of the Pilot in Command, performs Maintenance Operions Checks (MOCs); completes general or limited test flights of aircraft upon completion of extensive disassembly, reassembly, and maintenance, repair, or replacement of parts where tests cannot determine the safe and or proper functioning of aircraft components or systems; and ensures the airworthiness component or aircraft systems. Assists in acceptance test flights of new aircraft when required. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.

This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments. This is a Testing Designed Position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. Pre-employment drug testing and participion in random drug testing is a condition of employment.

Skilled in training crew members in simple to complex mission specific tasks. Experienced in developing plans and policies, monitoring operions, and advising commanders. Although a variety of piloting administrive task experiences support the knowledge competency of an Army Nional Guard aviion program, applicant must have the competence to instruct others in the piloting of the position's assigned aircraft. Experienced in the unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of Defense, Department of the Army, Nional Guard Bureau, and Occupional Safety and Health Administrion policies, regulions, and directives. Ability to conduct or supervise the training of crew members in simple to complex mission specific tasks. Experienced in developing plans and policies, monitoring operions, and advising commanders. Experienced in flight theory, air navigion, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft opering procedures, and mission tactics. Must have least two years experiences in instructing others in a specific air-frame/military aircraft. Competent to complete various piloting administrive tasks performed in support of Army Nional Guard aviion programs. Skilled to instruct others to pilot military aircraft on a regular and recurring basis. Experienced in the aviion unit quality control management programs; plus, skilled in the unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of the Army, Nional Guard Bureau, and Occupional Safety and Health Administrion directives. Experienced in following directives, regulions, accident reports, safety da, and local opering conditions to determine unit safety program requirements. Experienced in coordining with approprie agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulions and programs. Experienced in one or more missions such as, air-to-air; air-to
  • ground; mortar-to-arm escort; surveillance; reconnaissance; surface tack; killer-scout; target illuminion; or laser targeting.
Experienced in piloting manned or unmanned aircraft. Experiences may include the traditional "stick and rudder" type controls for piloting aircraft direction, altitude, and speed. Experienced in on-board aircraft instrumention and aircraft mounted video cameras. Experienced in visual flight-rule type flying and aircraft instrument flying. Experienced in flying simuled "real world" comb and non-comb missions and terrain. Experienced in planning, scheduling, and conducting flights through Federal Aviion Administrion controlled nional airspace. Experienced in applying operional directives, training directives, instructions, standard opering procedures, and special instructions of Nional Guard Bureau, United Stes Army, and gaining commands. Experienced in working independently to plan and perform work assignments. Experienced in completing safe and efficient missions through the use of Operional Risk Management. Experienced in cancelling flying activities, diverting aircraft, dicting mission requirements, approving specific activities, coordining for airport or airspace utilizion with FAA, and/or, directing emergency actions involving unit support agencies. Experienced in using applicable Army aviion regulions, policies, requirements and standards, skills and practices; and, the applying instructional techniques to the training of other pilots in the Army Nional Guard flying facilities. Experienced in conducting particular comb tactics, missions, or specific main-frame aircraft; or, flying in mountainous terrain, performing tactical remote site evaluion, performing landings on remote sites, providing ground and flight training, and conducting night-vision operions and instruction. Experienced in standardizion and evaluion programs, written ground examinions, emergency procedures, and aircrew performance standards in accordance with applicable directives and Federal Aviion Administrion certificion requirements.
