We design and build modular unmanned systems and mission-ready solutions through our Robotics and Defense divisions. Our work combines real-world operational insight with rapid engineering and testing. The Opportunity We're looking for an experienced Drone Pilot / UAS Operator to support flight testing and evaluation of small UAS platforms. This is a 1099 independent contractor engagement, ideal for someone who prefers project-based work and flexibility. You'll be involved in real testing scenarios, working alongside engineering and R D teams to validate performance and improve systems. What You'll Do Execute manual (Angle and Acro) FPV flight operations with precision and control Conduct repeatable test flights to support engineering validation and system performance Identify flight behavior issues in real time and provide clear, actionable feedback to engineering Troubleshoot and isolate issues across: Flight controller configuration, RF link (control + video), Power systems and ESC behavior Build, modify, and repair aircraft as needed (field and bench level) Prepare and configure aircraft, radios, and ground systems for test events Support scenario-based testing (range, urban, degraded environments) Maintain flight logs, test notes, and observed anomalies Operate in accordance with FAA Part 107 and internal safety standards How the Engagement Works Work is event-driven (test windows, development pushes, customer facing demonstrations) Flexible scheduling based on availability and project needs You can accept or decline assignments based on your availability No guaranteed hours or ongoing schedule What We're Looking For Flight Capability Proven ability to fly FPV in full manual (Angle and Acro) mode Confident control under dynamic conditions (not simulator-only experience) Ability to demonstrate flight proficiency (video or live) Technical Skillset Hands-on experience with Betaflight (configuration, tuning, troubleshooting) Working knowledge of PX4, ArduPilot, or iNAV Strong understanding of: RC link systems (ELRS, Crossfire, etc.), Video transmission systems (analog/digital VTX), Power systems (LiPo/Li-ion behavior, ESCs, voltage sag) Ability to diagnose and fix issues without step-by-step instruction Hands-On Ability Experience building, repairing, or modifying FPV drones Comfortable with soldering, wiring, and component replacement Ability to get an aircraft back in the air quickly after failure Operational Mindset Able to operate independently in a test environment Strong situational awareness and risk judgment Comfortable working in outdoor and field conditions Baseline Requirements FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate Willingness to travel as needed Ability to lift and move equipment (~50 lbs) Preferred (Strong Differentiators) Military or tactical small UAS experience Experience operating in contested, urban, or RF-degraded environments PID tuning and blackbox analysis experience Experience supporting R D, flight testing, or prototype development Familiarity with long-range RF systems and antenna setup Experience with custom payloads, onboard compute, or system integration Important Notes
