About Us LACADA is a mission-driven organization committed to providing trauma informed client centered services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking. Our Emergency Shelter and Outreach Programs provide advocacy and support services rooted in empowerment, empathy, and respect. We're looking for a dedicated Residential Advocate who shares our passion for supporting survivors and fostering a safe, welcoming environment. About the Role As a Residential Advocate , you'll be a vital, frontline member of our team. You will help survivors entering our emergency shelter feel supported, welcomed and informed from the moment they arrive. You'll also respond to our 24-hour helpline, provide crisis intervention, ensure the safety and cleanliness of our facility, and work closely with our advocacy team to support participants in their healing journey. Schedule for overnight shift is 12am-8am Wednesday-Friday and with the addition of every other Saturday 12a-8a. Shelter Support & Advocacy Welcome and orient new shelter participants with care and sensitivity. Assist survivors in developing personalized safety plans. Maintain accurate, confidential participant records. Provide crisis intervention and respond swiftly and professionally to emergencies. Support survivors with access to essentials such as clothing, toiletries, transportation, and medications. Safety & Facility Responsibilities Ensure the security and safety of all shelter and outreach locations. Perform light cleaning and maintain sanitary communal areas. Keep shelter entrances clear—including shoveling snow when needed. Report maintenance needs and safety concerns promptly. Teamwork & Communication Work collaboratively with advocacy team members and leadership. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development. Serve as a positive representative of LACADA in the community. Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and trauma-informed best practices at all times. Other Responsibilities Coordinate transportation for participants when needed. Assist with committees, special events, and community projects.
What We're Looking For Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and variable shifts. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and perform basic physical tasks (shoveling, stair climbing, organizing). Strong communication skills and commitment to trauma-informed, survivor-centered care. Comfortable working with diverse populations and identities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred:
Experience supporting survivors of domestic or sexual violence OR experience working with women, children, or vulnerable populations. Additional language fluency—especially Spanish or ASL (5% salary premium after successful probation). Crisis intervention experience or relevant human services background. Passion for equity, social justice, and ending gender-based violence.
