1. Apply now Δ The Second Mate (2nd Officer) is responsible for supporting the safe navigation, marine operations, and cargo stability management of the drillship. Reporting directly to the Chief Mate and Master, the Second Mate maintains navigational watches, oversees voyage planning, ensures compliance with international maritime regulations, and supports safety and emergency preparedness onboard. Job description This position can be filled by a 2nd Mate, but a Chief Mate is preferable. Must have drillship experience. Navigation & Watchkeeping Stand navigational watches in accordance with STCW requirements and company policies. Monitor vessel position, weather, traffic, and navigational hazards during transit and drilling operations. Prepare and maintain detailed voyage plans using ECDIS and traditional navigation methods. Ensure charts, publications, and navigational systems are corrected and up to date. Assist the Master during critical maneuvers, arrivals, departures, and offshore operations. Maintain proper bridge resource management (BRM) practices.
