Surf (SUP) Instructor and/or Outrigger Canoe Steersman (Lihue-Kalapaki Beach)

Kauai Beach Boys is seeking experienced, safety-focused, and customer-oriented Surf/SUP Instructor and/or Outrigger Canoe Steersman to join our team at Kalapaki Beach. Position Overview As a Surf/SUP Instructor and/or Outrigger Canoe Steersman, you will be responsible for delivering safe, engaging, and professional ocean experiences. You will work both on the beach and in the water, guiding guests of all ages and skill levels while maintaining the highest safety standards. Key Responsibilities Provide clear, effective surf and stand-up paddle (SUP) instruction on land and in the water Safely manage and supervise multiple participants in varying ocean conditions Assist guests in catching waves, including positioning and timing Ensure constant situational awareness and ocean safety for all participants Foster guest confidence and independence through quality instruction Operate and steer outrigger canoe, ensuring safe launches, rides, and returns Deliver exceptional customer service aligned with Kauai Beach Boys standards Communicate ocean conditions, hazards, and safety boundaries clearly Work collaboratively with team members to maintain smooth daily operations Qualifications & Requirements 2+ years surfing experience (minimum; more preferred) Strong ocean knowledge, including currents, wind, and surf conditions Proficient swimmer with the ability to assist guests in open water Experience with SUP/surf instruction and/or outrigger canoe steering preferred Current CPR / First Aid certification (required) Ability to show in a timely manner. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Positive, energetic, and professional attitude Reliable and punctual with strong work ethic Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Sincere and caring attitude.
