About the
Role:
Join the team at Steppingstone Marina and spend your summer working on the waterfront at one of the North Shore's premier boating destinations. Operated by the Great Neck Park District, Steppingstone Marina offers a vibrant environment where boating, recreation, and community come together. As a Seasonal Marina Launch Operator, you will play a key role in keeping marina operations running smoothly while providing exceptional service to residents and visitors enjoying the harbor. From operating the launch boat and assisting boaters, to supporting waterfront recreation activities and helping maintain a safe and welcoming beach and marina environment, no two days are the same. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys being outdoors, working on the water, interacting with people, and being part of a fast-paced summer waterfront team. Employees gain valuable experience in boating operations, customer service, marine safety, and public recreation while working in a unique and scenic marina setting. Whether helping a family launch their kayak, assisting boaters arriving at the docks, or ensuring safe waterfront operations during busy summer weekends, the Seasonal Marina Launch Operator helps create the positive experience that makes Steppingstone Marina a destination for the Great Neck community.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid operator's license or certification as required by local maritime authorities. Prior experience operating small boats or similar watercraft in a commercial or recreational setting. Strong understanding of boating safety regulations and emergency procedures. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods. Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working in a marina or waterfront environment. First aid and CPR certification. Knowledge of local waterways and navigation. Experience with basic mechanical maintenance of small boats. Ability to operate radio communication equipment.
Responsibilities:
Operate the marina launch boat to transport passengers and supplies between the marina and boats in the water. Ensure all passengers follow safety protocols, including the use of life jackets and adherence to boarding procedures. Conduct pre-operation inspections of the launch vessel to verify mechanical and safety equipment functionality. Monitor weather and water conditions continuously to adjust operations accordingly and maintain safety standards. Assist with docking and undocking procedures, securing the launch boat properly at all times. Provide courteous and professional customer service, answering questions and assisting boaters as needed. Report any maintenance issues or safety concerns promptly to marina management. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the launch vessel and related equipment.
