Operating Mechanic A L1-2, Steam Operations 59th St Consolidated Edison Company of York $41.75 - $56.39 / hr United States, York, York 4 Irving Place (Show on map) May 14, 2026 Overview An Operating Mechanic A is responsible for operating and maintaining steam & electric generation equipment, including boilers, turbines, pumps, motors, and associated systems. The role involves making regular rounds to monitor equipment performance and ensure safe and efficient operation. Responsibilities Core Responsibilities
Will perform routine maintenance tasks such as, troubleshooting issues with machinery and making necessary adjustments to optimize plant performance.
Maintain and uphold all safety protocols and regulatory standards while documenting operational data and maintenance activities. Qualifications Required Education/Experience High School Diploma/GED and 1 year of work experience in a relevant field: Power Plant, Merchant Marine, U.S. Navy or another related maritime experience.
Relevant Work Experience Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience in a field such as: a Power Plant, Merchant Marine, U.S. Navy or another related maritime experience, required.
Strong technical skills and attention to detail are essential for this role, required.
Licenses and Certifications Driver's License Required
Physical Demands Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
Additional Physical Demands
The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
