Cleveland Water Taxi and CLE Tiki Barge are privately owned businesses that provide private and public tours on Lake Erie, and the Cuyahoga River. We are currently hiring safe, responsible, and outgoing

FIRST MATES

to fulfill the following duties for the 2026 season. The First Mate is a key crew member responsible for supporting vessel operations, ensuring passenger safety, and delivering a professional and enjoyable on-water experience. This position works closely with the Captain to maintain safe docking procedures, enforce safety regulations, assist with guest needs, and uphold operational standards. This role requires strong situational awareness, physical stamina, excellent communication skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Every trip must be executed safely, efficiently, and professionally. It is important to note that this position is different from the Cleveland Metroparks Water Taxi.

Qualifications Required:

Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to remain calm and decisive in high-pressure situations. Physical ability to lift heavy bags of ice, handle dock lines, and perform cleaning tasks. Reliable transportation and schedule flexibility (including evenings, weekends, concerts, and Browns game days). Ability to strictly follow safety and phone-use policies. Comfortable working outdoors in summer conditions for extended shifts (8-10 hours). All applicants must be age 21 or over, able to pass mandatory drug screenings through Maritime Consortium.

Preferred:

Experience in hospitality, tourism, or marine environments. Experience operating small vessels or familiarity with boating terminology. Experience using digital scheduling, booking, or POS systems including FareHarbor.
