Job Summary:
Newport Classic Cruises, LLC is seeking experienced and qualified Captains to operate schooners ranging from 90
  • 72' in accordance with U.S.C.G. regulations and company standards. Must be US citizen. Day sailing program, average five trips a day sailing on Narragansett Bay. Full time position (May
  • October). Based out of Newport, RI.
  • Options are available as a part time or full time captain.
  • Must have a 50 Ton inland masters license or greater.

Qualifications:
  • Hold a minimum 50-ton Master's Near Coastal/Inland License with Auxiliary Sail endorsement for Adirondack IV, Madeleine, and Eleanor.
  • Possess a current FCC Marine Radio Operator Permit.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing and participation in the mandatory USCG Random Drug Testing Program
  • Proven experience in operating vessels and ensuring passenger safety.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols, navigation, and emergency procedures.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Responsibilities:
  • Safely operate and navigate vessels while ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers and crew. Exercise sound judgment regarding safe navigation and operation of the vessel. Monitor passenger and crew activities, ensuring the crew is attending to passenger safety, comfort, or boat maintenance while underway.
  • Adhere to U.S.C.G. regulations and company policies at all times.
  • Assess weather conditions before departure using available resources, such as the weather band on the VHF aboard the boat, weather phone applications and the ticket-booth laptop computer.
Make informed decisions on whether it's safe for the vessel, crew, and passengers to embark. Continuously evaluate weather conditions during the trip and make necessary decisions, including returning to the dock if conditions deteriorate.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and maintain emergency equipment. Ensure compliance with legal maximum passenger capacity regulations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and engage with passengers in a professional manner. Deliver a brief, friendly, and clearly audible "Welcome/Safety" Speech and "Arrival" Speech before and after each trip, creating a welcoming and informative atmosphere for passengers.
  • Implement emergency protocols in case of unforeseen circumstances or emergencies. Conduct regular safety drills and ensure crew readiness for emergency situations.
  • Collaborate with crew members to ensure smooth operation and efficiency.
Pay:
$28.00
