Shorebreak Marine, LLC is a privately owned marine construction company and is one of many construction contracting businesses owned and operated by TCI Holdings. Our headquarters is located in Chesapeake, Virginia, and most of our marine construction projects are done in the Hampton Roads Metropolitan Area of Virginia. For more information, please visit our website at: www.essentialcontractors.com Deck Hand / Carpenter - Job Responsibilities As a Deckhand 1 you would directly assist the Project Manager to accomplish quality marine construction projects that are profitable and provide a positive construction experience for the customer. Deck Hand / Carpenter - Essential Duties & Responsibilities Carry out design plan of the job, including Pile driving. Rip Rap installation, seawall, dock or pier construction, and boat lifts. Measures, marks, and arranges materials to established layout based on blueprints or instructions from supervisors. Cuts and shapes structures, forms, or other fixtures from various materials, including wood, plastic, etc.
Operates machinery:
forklifts, ariel lifts, etc. Uses various hand and power tools to securely build assigned projects. Joins materials with the most appropriate nail, screw, staple, or adhesive. Ensures the accuracy of work by checking completed projects with tools such as levels, surveying equipment, or framing squares; corrects problems as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Deck Hand / Carpenter - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to listen to, understand, and follow directions. Ability to solve mathematical problems/calculations quickly and accurately. Ability to properly care for and use tools of the construction trade. Ability to work well independently or as part of a team. Must possess good communication skills - both written and verbal. Education and Experience Minimum of 3 years' experience in construction is required; previous experience in marine construction highly preferred. Valid state driver's license required. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling. Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination. Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day. Ability to lift, push and pull up to 70 pounds and maneuver heavy equipment using specialized equipment. Ability to use hands and fingers to handle and/or feel to use specialized tools and operate equipment. Work Environment & Working Conditions Exposure to characteristic of marine construction job site hazards. Must be able to safely work with sharp tools or power equipment. Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains. Working hours are Monday - Friday but may require weekends due to bad weather.
