Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated US Coast Guard (USCG) or Big Bear Lake For Hire Captain to lead and oversee boating operations on our tiki boat with professionalism, personality, precision, and a commitment to safety. As the commanding officer of the vessel, you will be responsible for safely navigating the inland waters of Big Bear Lake, ensuring compliance with state, and local regulations, and maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence. Your leadership will be vital in safeguarding the vessel, managing crew members, and executing cruises efficiently. This role offers an exciting opportunity for experienced captains with a passion for safety, fun, socializing, and leadership. $35 per tour run is augmented by excellent tips, somewhat uncertain schedule based on seasonality and tourism demand. Schedule can include up to 6 tours per day, with a minimum of 1 tour per day regularly. 45 minutes between tours allows time to reset vessel and enjoy breaks. Duties Command and operate vessels in accordance with USCG regulations and safety protocols Comply with and perform vessel and management, safety drills Provide conversation, local knowledge (easy to learn), and genuine personality to create memorable experiences for guests Maintain mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on vessel systems Focus on safety while also creating an atmosphere of ease and comfort for guests Ensure compliance with all applicable maritime laws and environmental regulations Coordinate with emergency responders and other agencies during incidents or drills Lead safety drills, inspections, and risk assessments to uphold vessel integrity and crew readiness Skills Strong background with experience in maritime operations or leadership roles US Coast Guard 6 pack minimum license or similar agencies (California For Hire license for Big Bear Lake) Proven management skills to lead diverse teams effectively under high-pressure situations Comfort working in small spaces with another person (bartender and captain share a ~ 12 square foot space) Expertise in safety procedures, and vessel handling Willingness to listen and learn, take direction Mechanical knowledge of ship systems including outboard engines, navigation equipment, and safety gear Excellent communication skills for clear coordination with team members and external agencies Ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions while maintaining operational control Demonstrated commitment to safety standards, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement Ability to work between the hours of 10am-10pm, and on weekends, evenings, and holidays Willingness to work in tight proximity with one other person Ability to multitask while maintaining safety and integrity onboard Focus on providing superb customer service, memorable experiences, and genuine warmth to guests Willingness and ability to prepare vessel for tours including filling with water (carting 300lbs of water daily via wheeled cart to boat, coordinating blackwater pump-outs, restocking the vessel bar, monitoring health & maintenance schedule of outboard engines, fueling, cleaning of vessel etc) Join us in this dynamic role where your leadership will create memorable and safe experiences for guests of the Big Bear Tiki Boat.
