This vital role involves overseeing vessel operations, ensuring safety compliance, and managing guests on vessels that operate within Marina del Rey and Santa Monica Bay. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background with larger sailing vessels, mechanical systems, rigging, combined with leadership experience gained through various sailing captain roles. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead vessel navigation and operations while maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency. Duties Single hand and command a pristine 1984 Hudson Force 50' with up to 12 passengers aboard for bareboat charters Conduct a safety briefing for guests and supervise all guests while underway for vessel and guest safety Lead vessel navigation and operation, ensuring compliance with all US Coast Guard regulations and safety protocols Oversee rigging systems, mechanical components, and onboard equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety, communicate repairs and incidents to management Conduct regular safety drills, inspections, and maintenance checks to uphold regulatory standards Supervise emergency response procedures and communicate effectively with port authorities and emergency responders when necessary Maintain detailed logs of vessel activities, safety incidents, and maintenance records for regulatory compliance Requirements Valid USCG 50 GRT+ Master's License with a Sailing Endorsement; additional endorsements are a plus. Must have a clean USCG record with no incidents or collisions. Ideally on second renewal. Have an upbeat attitude and problem solving mindset; to provide private clients an enjoyable, personalized experience highlighting their requests, while begin able to provide clear and simple boundaries for guest and vessel safety. Has previous experience in the bareboat charter market Familiar with Marina del Rey harbor Located close to MDR, CA for last minute charter bookings. Strong mechanical knowledge of vessel systems, including engines, rigging, and safety equipment Have a history of single handling larger sailing vessels, 50'+ Understand how to use a VHF radio for vessel communications Willingness to work flexible hours including long voyages or shifts as required, clients are welcomed to add additional hours anytime while on charter.
