Job Description

2026 Ferry Boat Captain (Pay based on experience) Get paid to spend your summer on the water! The Ferry (Miss Lauren) and Harbor Princess are currently seeking friendly, energetic and customer orientated Boat Captains with a 50 and 100 Ton Master License, (either Near Coastal or Great Lakes Endorsement is needed), to join our team for the 2026 season! Our season runs May through October.

Typical Work Hours/Schedule:
Generally, a 6-month position, May through October. Typically requires 20- 40 hours per week. Weekend work is expected. Flexible hours and choose your own schedule.

Bay Harbor Michigan Summary/Objective:
The Boat Captain commands and operates vessels up to 100 tons. The captain ensures efficient, safe, and comfortable passenger boat transportation. Must be located in or near Petoskey, MI. Your Contributions to the Crew Ensure the safety of the vessel and its passengers, crew, and cargo Leadership and direction of crew members Oversee loading and unloading of passengers and bikes, etc. Possess and demonstrates superior judgment and performance under pressure Provide excellent customer service to all passengers Operate the vessel at a safe and economical engine speed Plan and coordinate safety inspections of the ferry Maintain a clean work environment Promptly report mechanical problems Knowledge and adherence of U.S. Coast Guard rules and regulations governing the operation of a passenger vessel Complete and maintain all shift records required by the USCG and Management Maintain good communication with crew and Dock Master Ability to work a flexible schedule Perform other tasks as assigned Qualifications (all need to be current) U.S. Coast Guard Licensed as a Master of vessels at least 100 gross tons. Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) FCC Marine Radio Operators Permit (MROP) First Aid/CPR certification Participate and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident/incident testing.
