  • Contract Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and experienced USCG Mariner Licensed Captains with Towing Endorsement (REQUIRED) to lead vessel operations on inland waterways and assist with the safe transportation of cargo and personnel.
As a Tow Boat Captain, you will be responsible for navigating boats efficiently and safely, assisting vessels in distress by ungrounding, providing fuel, battery jumps, and if need be towing. Responsibilities Operate tow boats with precision, ensuring safe navigation through various waterway conditions while adhering to all maritime laws and safety standards Provide day/night time services to vessel owners in the Raritan Bay/Hudson Bay and surrounding rivers. Conduct routine inspections of vessel systems, rigging, and mechanical components to ensure optimal performance and safety Coordinate with management for scheduling, route planning, and cargo handling requirements Perform maintenance checks, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and perform/oversee repairs to keep vessels in top condition Maintain detailed logs of vessel activities, navigation routes, crew schedules, and safety inspections Skills Strong maritime navigation skills with the ability to operate tow boats confidently in diverse water conditions Knowledge of rigging techniques used for securing cargo and vessel stability Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on boat systems Background in military or law enforcement is preferred Familiarity with safety regulations such as OSHA (HAZWOPER) standards and maritime compliance requirements Excellent communication skills for effective coordination with team members and management This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in active environments, prefer working independently, and are passionate about maritime operations.
