Job Description
The purpose of this job is to not only perform the duties of a paramedic as defined by the Texas Department of State Health Services, but to perform additional daily operational duties and advanced skills above standard paramedic-level protocols, and to directly supervise and manage the operations and activities of an assigned shift in the absence of the Shift Captain. The Shift Lieutenant ensures all units and crew members perform their duties effectively and adhere to EMS division protocols and established policies of the department and City. The Shift Lieutenant will report directly to their assigned Shift Captain, and in their absence, they will report to the Deputy Chief EMS. This is a safety sensitive and/or DOT position. As such, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.
- Prepares and maintains EMS units and equipment for swift responses.
- Responds promptly to provide medical treatment to sick and injured League City residents.
- Trains and supervises new and experienced EMS personnel effectively.
- Maintains up-to-date EMS Texas Department of State Health Services certifications.
- Completes Electronic Patient Care Reports accurately as per EMS policies.
- Assists in scheduling personnel to meet staffing needs in collaboration with Shift Captain.
- Ensures optimal patient care during the Shift Captain's absence or when unavailable due to multiple calls.
- Prepares and teaches continuing education classes directed by the Shift Captain and Chiefs.
- Assists with hiring process, including phase testing and oral board examinations.
- Manages and distributes medical supplies as requested, including controlled substances.
- Oversees equipment and vehicle maintenance, coordinating necessary repairs promptly.
- Monitors and ensures completion of patient care reports by crew members, reporting to Shift Captain as needed.
- Maintains accurate response information in the Emergency Reporting database for assigned shifts.
- Coordinates and conducts shift trainings under the guidance of the Shift Captain.
- Fulfils additional responsibilities as directed by EMS Chief or Deputy Chief of Operations.
- Participates in supplementary programs and duties as assigned within the department.
- Performs related work as required.
- Two years' experience as a Paramedic in a busy 911 system.
- At least one (1) year of experience utilizing League City EMS protocols, preferred.
- Ability to pass the Supervisory clinical assessment with the Medical Director(s) during the interview and testing process.
