POSITION OVERVIEW
The Lowboy Driver position serves as a key participant in the interaction between the Company (and other crew members), other contractors and our customers. The position is responsible for the loading, transporting and delivery of a variety of equipment in a safe and efficient manner, including milling equipment and other related machinery while following the state and federal guidelines. Also ensures the safety of crew members via communicating and enforcing Company safety programs/policies/practices as well as OSHA, Department of Transportation (DOT) and other related regulatory requirements. Responsible for completing all required documentation and maintenance files in a timely manner.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Loads, transports and unloads the Company's equipment via a truck/lowboy trailer in a safe and efficient manner. Equipment may include but not limited to water trucks, milling machines, forklifts and/or other multi-axle equipment. Inspects equipment, and/or components daily to identify hazards, defects, necessary adjustments and repairs. May perform minor maintenance activities and report exceptional problems to appropriate members. May operate equipment that requires technical expertise and/or specialized training. Adheres to all applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations; completes and submits all required paperwork in a timely manner. Cleans, inspects, and services vehicle ensuring it's properly maintained and securely stored. Maintains high level of accuracy in load sizing for both weight and dimensional purposes. Properly uses permits and translates diagrams and sketches describing off-highway locations, routes, and job sites. Consistently completes all job duties in a safe manner and promotes a positive safety awareness culture. Demonstrates a keen sense of safety and awareness particularly when working in high traffic and potentially hazardous construction sites. Demonstrates a high level of attention to detail. Occasionally confers with customers or the general public and is expected to do so in a professional manner. Communicates any concerns to Foreman and/or supervisor. Maintains good working relations with co-workers and other employees. Maintain ability to work overtime, nights and weekends particularly during the high season. Maintains ability to travel up to 100% of time to various job sites. Maintains regular and punctual attendance. Maintains an acceptable motor vehicle record, relevant commercial driver license (CDL) and medical card. Completes special projects as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Prior work related experience. Working knowledge and experience with heavy equipment, processes, and safety protocols. Valid CDL (Class A) preferred; Class A CDL couple with medical card required for hauling certain equipment. Valid driver license and acceptable motor vehicle record Construction industry experience preferred. Knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) and current FMCSA rules and regulations and ensuring compliance with these guidelines. Proven effective oral and written communication skills, job planning skills and mechanical aptitude are a must. Ability to work long hours outdoors and will be sitting / driving all day. Ability to work Monday through Sunday and overtime as required (including irregular hours, out of town work, overnight stays, weekends and holidays). Reliable work ethic; regular attendance is required. Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds with co-workers, vendors, and subcontractors at all levels. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding all departmental matters.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must tolerate working environment with outside temperatures that include excessive heat, cold, wind, and precipitation. Must be able to work outside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts. Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds to an overhead position. Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, and twist body. Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to use both hands and demonstrate good hand-eye coordination. Tolerance to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Potentially exposed to contaminants, such as dust or fumes from exhaust; frequent exposure to hazardous equipment. Occasionally work in very bright or very dim lighting conditions. Are sometimes exposed to hazardous situations that produce cuts or minor burns. May need to work in tight/confined spaces or work areas. Must be able to regularly wear personal protective equipment, including hard hats, safety goggles, safety vests and/or ear plugs.
