High School diploma and/or GED desirable plus a minimum of five years of experience in the operation of various equipment cited below. Must be able to safely operate dump trucks, street sweepers and all equipment over 26,000 pounds of gross vehicle weight. Must be able to safely use tools such as chain saws, snow blowers, wood chippers, etc. Must be experienced in utility trenchwork. Must maintain a valid driver's license; must provide a yearly DMV Certified Driving History. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required since the gross weight of the vehicles operated are over 26,001 pounds. Must maintain a valid medical card as required by the State of Connecticut DOT. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Mandatory 24 hour on-call snow removal duty from November 1 to April 30. There is a mandatory snow removal duty whereupon the incumbent must report to work regardless of approved time off. Additionally, the remainder of the year requires 24 hour on call work status; however you are exempt from work duty if on pre-approved leave during this time. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles such as dust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is also required to work along roadways and around power lines, and gas, water, and sewer mains. May be transferred into any division within the Public Works Department as needed or assigned.
