Job Description

Propane Delivery Driver 1000 North Broad Street, Middletown, DE 19709 $25.21 - $26.21 an hour - Full-time $25.21 - $26.21 an hour - Full-time Schagrin Home Comfort Products is a 4th generation family-owned local business specializing in propane delivery and the installation and service of gas appliances including HVAC equipment, standby generators, gas logs and fireplaces, and other comfort and convenience products.
Please note:
This is a Union position with benefits including a pension plan. This is a Teamsters union position; provisions of the collective bargaining agreement are hereby incorporated by reference. Union provisions require a 6-month probationary period. Further, the contract sets an initial 60-day probationary training period, wherein the probationary employee receives $1.00 per hour less than the base rate. After successful completion of that period, the employee's hourly rate increases to the standard base ($26.21). Objective To safely operate trucks for the delivery of propane gas to residential and commercial customers in a professional manner. Essential Functions Carefully follow instructions for the pickup, transport and delivery of propane in a safe manner. Operate a Bobtail Delivery Truck. General knowledge of how to restart gas appliances and check for gas leaks. Properly load and unload trucks. Assist with service of appliances, tanks, and piping. Assist with pumping out tanks, assist with and perform tank installations and changes. Keep accurate truck driver log, maintain all necessary paperwork of all work performed. Keep equipment and vehicles in excellent condition by performing necessary maintenance. (fluid levels, cleanliness, etc). Check with the Manager/Dispatcher before leaving any location for additional instructions or deliveries. Maintain DOT medical clearance and keep up-to-date with necessary certifications, furnish documentation as needed, and any other legal requirements to drive. Reports problems at the time of the delivery to Foreman. Treats customers and co-workers in a friendly, respectful manner. Represents SchagrinGAS Company in a professional and courteous manner. Reports directly to the VP of Propane Operations, may also receive direction from various supervisors. Perform other miscellaneous duties and training as assigned to the position. Report any/all accidents and safety hazards to the supervisor immediately. Schedule Requirements Must be available to work full-time, from 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Overtime required during busy/cold weather seasons. Required to work rotating on-call shifts once properly trained. Must be available at all times and easily reachable by phone and email while on-call. Minimum Qualifications Must have a minimum 2-3 years of propane and/or gas handling experience. Must have a valid Class B commercial driver's license with HazMat and Tank (X) endorsement, in good standing. Must comply with Federal DOT and Schagrin Home Comfort Products drug & alcohol testing policies. Ability to understand and follow instructions in English. Must be willing and able to work in an environment is both indoors and outdoors, in all types of weather. Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and move freely in the performance of the position. Ability to lift/pull up to 50 pounds. Ability to climb in and out of equipment many times during the course of the day's work. Physical Demands/Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
