Until Position is Filled Safe & Sound Hillsborough is seeking a Youth Transportation Specialist for the new Hillsborough County Evening Reporting Center (HCERC). : To work with at-risk youth (males ages 12-18) in their community versus in detention or residential treatment. This will include primarily pre-trial and (limited) post adjudication youth who may cross-over systems with Health & Human Services. The HCERC will look to provide wraparound services and programs that include, but are not limited to: mental health, medical/physical health, chemical dependency, targeted case management, behavior management, education (tutoring/literacy), family engagement, restorative justice, recreational and pro-social activities, as well as nutrition (meals will be provided).SUMMARY OF POSITION
The position is responsible for the operation and logistics of the HCERC. The employee will work with Hillsborough County youth that are in a pre-trial status period. The clients will be Hillsborough County male youth ages 12-18 identified as medium/high risk for delinquency, at risk for, or returning from out-of-home placement. Communication with the family, school staff, and Hillsborough County agencies is essential. The Driver will be responsible for safely picking up youth from designated locations, including their place of residence, school, or work, and transporting them to the reporting center for programming hours. The employee will ensure that all youth are safely transported to the reporting center on time and in compliance with all security protocols. After the program concludes, the employee will be responsible for safely transporting youth back to their homes, ensuring that each youth is dropped off at the correct location. Once all youth have been safely returned home, the employee will drive the vehicle to the designated drop-off location, ensuring it is properly secured before concluding their shift. The Driver's commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and respectful environment is essential, as they play a key role in the youth's daily interactions and overall program experience. Employee reports to the Reporting Center Manager of Safe & Sound Hillsborough. Position Responsibilities Although the following list is not exhaustive, it covers a wide range of a Driver's responsibilities:- Transport youth safely to and from designated locations, including courts, detention centers, schools, and other approved destinations.
- Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols and procedures. Ensure all youth are subjected to a pocket check and pat down for contraband before entering the vehicle.
- The Driver must maintain a valid driver's license throughout the duration of employment. Failure to maintain a valid license will result in immediate termination.
- Regularly inspect the vehicle to ensure it is in good working condition, report any maintenance issues, and maintain a clean and safe environment inside the vehicle.
- Interact with youth respectfully, maintaining professionalism at all times while enforcing rules and maintaining a secure atmosphere.
- Complete trip logs, maintain accurate records of transportation activities, and report any incidents or concerns in a timely manner.
- Be prepared to respond appropriately to emergencies, including providing first aid or contacting appropriate authorities.
- Ensure the protection of confidential client information
- Provide mentoring support to youth
- Model pro-social behaviors for youth
- Coordinate transportation for youth clients (and families as required) to and from appointments, activities, and daily programming (as needed)
- Develop relationships with families of youth clients and maintain regular dialogue with family members about youths' needs, progress in the program, and challenges
- Attend all mandated trainings related to professional skill development
- Advocate for youth clients within a variety of settings, including, but not limited to school, juvenile court, medical and mental health agencies and other community-based service providers
- Advocate for youths' rights to effective special education services and additional assistance at school and in the community
- Ability and willingness to work a "non-traditional" work schedule, including evenings and weekends . Qualifications
MANDATORY
: Must be able to pass Level 2 Background Screening- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree or three (3) years or relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- 2-3 years of experience working within nonprofit sector, community outreach or in an administrative capacity.
- Ability to remain flexible and focused at all times including but not limited to deadlines, changes and approvals.
- Possession of valid Florida's driver's license and must have reliable transportation.
- Must not have any traffic related violations within the last 3 years (A DMV Check is required)
- A minimum of 1 year of experience working with court-involved and/or disconnected and/or out-of- school youth required
- Deep commitment to supporting and working with underserved youth
- Flexible, dependable and has an excellent work ethic
- Ability to engage in physical activities in order to participate in enrichment and recreation activity with youth.
- Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Experience in transportation or working with youth, preferably within the juvenile justice system, is a plus.
- Ability to maintain composure and enforce rules consistently.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with youth and staff.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
Working Conditions:
- This position involves working with youth who are in the juvenile justice system. Drivers must remain vigilant and adhere strictly to safety and security protocols.
- Work hours may vary and include evenings and weekends as needed.

Maintaining a valid driver's license is a critical requirement for this position. The safety and security of the youth in our care are of utmost importance, and all protocols, including contraband checks, must be followed without exception.NOTE:
