Per Hour Summary:
The Volumetric Concrete Truck Driver/Operator is responsible for the safe operation of a volumetric mixer truck to produce and deliver on-demand concrete directly at customer job sites. Unlike traditional ready-mix drivers, this role involves real-time onsite batching, active mix adjustments, and independent equipment operation — requiring a higher level of technical knowledge, mechanical aptitude, and customer accountability. This position operates with significant autonomy in the field and is critical to the quality of every pour.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Truck Operation & Safety Operate a volumetric concrete mixer truck in full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and company safety standards Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections Maintain a clean, organized truck and safe job site footprint Complete delivery tickets, driver logs, and any required electronic records accurately and on time Concrete Production & Quality Control Batch concrete on-site using volumetric metering controls Adjust mix designs in real time based on job specifications, ambient conditions, and customer direction Monitor and verify slump, yield, and mix consistency throughout the pour Calibrate equipment as needed to ensure accurate material output Job Site & Customer Interaction Serve as the on-site representative of the company — conduct yourself professionally with customers, contractors, and the public Assess job site conditions prior to setup, including access, grade, and safety clearances Communicate clearly with dispatch regarding schedule, delays, material usage, and any field issues Equipment Maintenance Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and preventive maintenance Identify and promptly report mechanical issues to prevent downtime Compliance & Documentation Adhere to all OSHA, DOT, and company policies Maintain complete and accurate delivery, batch, and inspection records
Global Responsibilities:
Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this position This job may require additional duties not listed above and the employee may be asked to perform those duties to meet business needs
Qualifications:
Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required Valid CDL Class A or B with air brakes endorsement Clean driving record (MVR required)
Experience:
Prior volumetric mixer experience (London, Cement Tech, or equivalent) Ready-mix, concrete, or construction materials industry background Familiarity with concrete mix designs, admixtures, and DOT mix specifications Experience reading and completing delivery tickets and batch records
Skills/Abilities:
Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries and to make entries on reports and records required Solid mechanical aptitude — comfortable with on-board controls, hydraulics, and basic troubleshooting Basic math skills for yield and mix calculations Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including early mornings and occasional weekends Dependable, well organized, safety minded, and have efficient work habits Positive attitude with a focus on customer satisfaction Ability to operate a truck mounted mobile smart device preferred Ability to effectively operate a truck with manual transmission preferred
Working Conditions:
Active construction job sites and public roadways Schedule may include early start times, extended hours, and occasional weekend work In an enclosed vehicle subject to whole body vibration and sedentary position Outdoors, exposed to weather and uneven ground conditions Extremely bright or inadequate lighting Subject to a moderate exposure to noise from volumetric concrete truck, plant, other highway noise, dust and jobsite equipment
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms Climb in and out of truck and climb up and down a ladder several times a day; other movements may require balance, kneeling, crawling, crouching, or walking Responsible for Personal Protective Equipment such as hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, work shoes and gloves once issued Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus Prolonged standing, walking, and working in varied weather conditions Operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipment Work through stressful situations while maintaining professionalism and composure Must be able to sit and drive for extended periods of time Must be able to work long and flexible hours as necessary Must be able to maneuver in and around our plants, yards, and jobsites as necessary Lift/carry up to 50 pounds occasionally Push/pull up to 75 pounds occasionally
