Our well-maintained fleet and experienced team ensure dependable transportation solutions for our valued clients. Position Overview Iron Way Transportation is seeking a Driver Training & Performance Specialist to lead driver training, evaluation, and development. This is a hands-on, operational role —not a desk job and not a compliance-only position. You will ensure drivers are trained correctly, evaluated on real-world performance, and held to high standards. At Iron Way, passing orientation does not mean a driver is ready—performance does. Key ResponsibilitiesOrientation & Hands-On Training Lead structured orientation sessions (twice per week) Deliver hands-on flatbed training, including: Chains, binders, straps, and Working Load Limits (WLL) Coil securement and load distribution Edge protection and proper securement techniques Train drivers on: Conestoga trailers APU/EPU systems Daily procedures and expectations Driver Evaluation & Accountability Conduct road tests and real-world evaluations
Assess:
Securement accuracy Safety awareness Decision-making and professionalism Perform monthly performance reviews Classify drivers as: Meeting standards Requiring retraining Not qualified to continue Provide clear decisions: Continue / Retrain / Terminate Load Securement Authority (Critical) Train and enforce securement standards aligned with FMCSA regulations Ensure drivers understand both the "how" and "why" Maintain a zero-compromise approach to unsafe practices Correct issues immediately and consistently HOS (Hours of Service) Coaching Coach drivers on maximizing hours safely and efficiently Provide guidance on: 11- and 14-hour clocks Trip planning and time management Reducing downtime and poor decisions Focus on real-world application—not just rule explanation Cross-Department Collaboration Partner with Safety, Operations, Maintenance, and Recruiting Provide feedback on: Driver readiness Training gaps Process improvements Standards & Discipline This role requires structure, consistency, and accountability .
The ideal candidate will:
Hold drivers to clear, non-negotiable standards Maintain a disciplined and organized training environment Focus on details that prevent larger issues Consistently enforce expectations This is not about being aggressive—it's about being precise, consistent, and dependable .
