Laborer/Truck Driver

Town of Amherst Laborer/Truck Driver Amherst, MA Apply AMHERST Laborer/Truck Driver Performs skilled work in maintaining parks, commons, athletic fields, walkways, recreational areas, cemeteries and public shade trees for the Town. Operates light and heavy trucks and associated equipment. Designated essential personnel. Works under the general supervision of a Crew Supervisor, and/or Division Director, who assigns work, reviews completed work and provides instruction as necessary. Performs duties according to established and specific procedures; detailed and specific instructions are provided on unusual or difficult projects.

MAJOR DUTIES

Performs general landscaping and tree work, planting, seeding, loaming, mowing, trimming, sweeping, raking, pruning and brush chipping. Assists in the maintenance of Town and School athletic fields, including layout and painting, trimming and mowing, setting up and removing bleachers and goals. Operate various sizes of grounds maintenance equipment including wide area mowers, riding mowers, walk behind mowers, field groomers, chippers, stump grinders. Performs basic building and equipment maintenance and makes minor repairs as assigned. Removes litter and trash from assigned areas. Operates light and heavy trucks of all sizes, including heavy trucks for hauling maintenance and construction materials and, transporting equipment. Operates snowplowing equipment, including truck mounted and specialized sidewalks plows and snow blowers. Walk behind snow blowers, shovel treat snow and ice from sidewalks, parking lots and roads. Maintains outdoor ice-skating rinks during winter months. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school education or equivalent, AND any equivalent combination of education and experience or specialized training demonstrating ability to perform above duties safely and efficiently. Some knowledge of equipment, methods and procedures used in landscaping and maintenance of buildings and grounds. Skill in operation of the listed tools and equipment. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time. Ability to work safely. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors and the public. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
