YesPosition SummaryThe CDL Class A driver is responsible for the safe and accurate delivery of products to various locations within the Greater Boston Food Banks agency network. The driver is expected to complete several transportation and operations-based tasks, including the safe operation of a Class A or B truck, loading, and unloading of GBFB vehicles, continuation of safe operating procedures, maintenance of proper documentation and compliance, and significant interaction with members within the network. This is an operations-based position, and as such, will work directly with our agency network in distributing food throughout the Eastern Massachusetts community.

Role & ResponsibilitiesKnowledge of operating Class A and B vehicles and delivering products in a timely and safe manner.

Experienced in collecting and loading items in a manner that prevents loss and breakage. Ensuring that the truck is compliant with local, state, and federal ordinances; Report any mechanical issues to the Transportation and Routing Supervisor.

Provide excellent customer service to our agency network.

Ability to work independently, according to an assigned schedule, while assessing and responding to customer needs and to update / changing plans.

Accurately document travel, time worked, breaks, etc. via written and electronic logging methods.

Maintain detailed daily records of vehicle maintenance and cleanliness.

Ability to always complete safe operation of electric pallet jack and other material handling equipment at all times.

Keep to the highest safety standards of Serv-Safe, Feeding America and ensure American Institute of (Baking) AIB standards are maintained.

Complying with all GBFB policies, DOT, FMCSA, and State regulations at all timesMake sure all donated or purchased Pick Ups are made on a timely manner according to GBFB (Greater Boston Food Bank) directives.

Safely and efficiently loading and unloading material, moving, putting away, receiving, selecting, or sorting with our equipmentAccurately counting and verifying inventory quantities and checking expiry dates. Maintaining a clean and safe working environment by managing trash, washing, vacuuming, sweeping, or other cleaning processes.

Skills & Qualifications Must have a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), a current DOT Medical card, and an excellent driving record.3 or more years of continuous Class
A & B CDL
driving experience, with specific knowledge of liftgates and reefers. Must have good written and verbal communication skills.

Must have knowledge and experience of the use of mobile technology in communication and E-Logs. Must be able to drive Class A vehicles and perform multiple deliveries and pickups. Must be able to provide honesty and integrity to all Food Bank-related tasks. Must be meticulous and responsible.

Must be able to collaborate within a diverse environment. Must be able to work independently and creatively with superior problem-solving skills.

Must have excellent organization, time-management, and task-management skills to maneuver in a fast-paced and diverse environment. Must have excellent interpersonal skills.

Electric pallet jack and Forklift experience a plusExperience working with a refrigerated truck is a plus.

Ability to read and write in English; a second language is a plus.

Drivers must pass a background check and DOT drug and alcohol test for employment.

Demonstrates the required digital competencies that result in the effective usage of the full range of digital technologies at GBFB.Physical DemandsAbility to lift, carry, push, or pull between the weights of 50 to 100 pounds safely. Ability to work bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.

Ability to drive up to 8 to 11 hours on a regular shift.

Ability to work within an open-air warehouse and office environment.

Ability to work in different temperatures for ambient, cooler, and frozen foods.

Willingness to learn to operate material handling equipment and obtain certification.

Ability to hear and work in an environment with noises typical in a warehouse environment, including horns, backup alarms, and flashing lights.

Ability to use hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. Work Environment This role follows a fully in-person and on-site schedule. This means incumbents in this role will be required to work each workday from an assigned office work location, including GBFB headquarters (70 South Bay Ave) and possibly any other work-related business in the community (i.e., community distribution sites, cross docks, etc.).The job is performed outdoors within our agency network with exposure to outside weather & temperatures as well as potentially working in the refrigerated or freezer areas. Daily travel, to various parts of Eastern Massachusetts, is an essential duty to this position.
